About our Organisation

The Soil Association, formed in 1946, is the only UK charity which works across the spectrum of
human health, the environment and animal welfare. That’s because we cannot tackle these issues
in isolation.

We campaign for change, we support farming innovation, we serve healthy food in communities, we
support and grow the organic market, and we protect forests. We couldn’t do any of this without
our supporters, partners, donors and dedicated staff. We make a difference in the world
where it’s needed the most.

About the Opportunity

Are you passionate about engaging people with nature to restore and enhance biodiversity and
create lasting connections to the land? Soil Association Land Trust is seeking a countryside
ranger for Woodoaks Farm, Rickmansworth to manage and develop volunteering activity and to look
after site maintenance. Reporting to the Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager and
working with the Woodoaks farm team, you will play a key part in welcoming and engaging people
to deepen their connection with this wonderful part of the countryside. You will be found
mostly outdoors where you might be leading volunteers to restore hedges, plant trees in the new
agroforestry area or to monitor the increasing wildlife and biodiversity. You might be up with
the dawn chorus or out at night with the moths and bats. You’ll patrol the farm and make sure
everything is safe for visitors. When indoors, you will be inspiring more people to get
involved and working with partners to recruit new volunteers

About You

You are a hands-on practical, unflappable, enthusiastic and welcoming person who is equally at
home alone outside in nature as with managing a wide range of groups. A confident communicator,
you are passionate about inspiring people to get involved and to build lasting connections to
the countryside. You have practical experience volunteering or managing volunteers in
environmental or community settings maybe in an outdoor urban environment. You have common
sense in spades, are adaptable and reliable and good with admin. Find out more about the Soil
