Ranger – Beldorney Estate

A flagship nature recovery project in the Highlands of Scotland seeks a ranger for the
Beldorney Estate, in Glass near Huntly in Aberdeenshire. Beldorney Estate contains a mosaic of
habitats from native woodland to wetlands, pastures to plantations.

The purpose of Highlands Rewilding is to enable nature recovery and community prosperity,
through rewilding at scale. We manage land to facilitate measurable increases in biodiversity
and carbon sequestration, to generate ethical profits, and to deliver community benefits. 

The role 

The ranger will work as part of the land team carrying out a range of work across Beldorney
Estate, as assigned by the Estate Manager. 

The role will involve: 

• General estate and forestry work such as planting, aftercare of newly planted trees, grass
  cutting, fencing, property maintenance, and small-scale felling.
• Working closely with the Science team to carry out ecological surveys and monitoring (for
  example herbivore impact assessments, camera traps and acoustic sensors).
• Habitat management to create and maintain favourable conditions for wildlife.
• Helping to build and maintain low key facilities for eco-tourism, including establishing
  and maintaining a network of formal and informal paths.
• Being an active participant in the team striving to enable nature recovery and community
  prosperity through rewilding, including being involved in community events and tours.

Person specification 

Essential: 

• Experience of working outdoors in all weathers. 
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to share information with a diverse range
  of people, including staff and public groups. 
• Ecological knowledge and interest. 
• A full clean driver’s license. 
• Familiarity with working within good Health & Safety guidelines. 
• Be collegial, happy to work alone and as part of a team. 

Desirable: 

• Chainsaw, ATV and First Aid certificates (but not essential as training can be offered). 
• Plant and bird species identification and survey skills.
• Experience of working with livestock, regenerative agriculture, horticulture, freshwater
  ecology, or soil biology. 

The role will be predominantly based on Beldorney Estate. The successful candidate will live
within travelling distance of the estate or be prepared to relocate accordingly. This will be a
full-time role of Monday-Friday, hours are negotiable. On occasion, there may be a need to work
outside of normal hours.
