The Rare Disease Coordinator will be instrumental in facilitating connections between key stakeholders, including Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) clinicians and MCRI researchers. You will play a role in supporting families enrolled in RDNow and will foster partnerships between patient support and advocacy groups and the RDNow team.

This position is perfect for an experienced nurse consultant or genetic counsellor looking to transition into a coordination role. This role offers a unique chance to make a meaningful impact in the field of rare diseases.

Rare Diseases Now (RDNow) is an innovative initiative dedicated to identifying genetic diagnoses in individuals whose rare disease is unsolved by clinical genomic testing. Based at the Melbourne Children’s Campus, RDNow employs a comprehensive approach to advance our understanding and treatment of rare diseases.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with research and clinical staff at the Melbourne Children’s Campus to support a campus-wide approach to rare disease care
  • Act as a point of contact within the Melbourne Children’s Campus for enquiries regarding RDNow including from researchers, clinicians and families
  • Alongside the RDNow genetic counsellors and clinical geneticists, be responsive to patient and family concerns and enquiries
  • Prepare family-facing resources for RDNow participants

What we need from you

  • Masters of Genetic Counselling, or Bachelor or higher degree qualification in nursing or genetics/genomics or a related field
  • Proven high level experience in navigating and negotiating with multiple organisations and professional groups
  • Advanced facilitation skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of professionals from different disciplines to deliver project outcomes
