The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an opening for a Recreation Manager /Natural Resource Specialist 3, in the Pacific Cascade Region located in Southwest Washington.

Responsibilities:
This Natural Resource Specialist 3 is critical to planning, monitoring, and maintaining the recreation areas in the Pacific Cascade Region, as well as collaborating with area volunteers and partners. The recreation manager supervises four direct reports. This position is highly visible to the public and acts as a primary point of contact for visitors, recreation events, volunteers, grant coordination, and a variety of stakeholder groups.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree involving a major study in natural resource, recreational management, or related field; AND professional experience in forestry or in a closely related resource field;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in natural resources, recreation, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of recreation management skills, trail technology, tools, and other trail systems.
  • Experience and ability to work collaboratively with all types of people, community members, and diverse groups representing all forms of recreation, as well as government and non-profit entities. This includes a demonstrated ability to facilitate public meetings and speak effectively to large groups of people in public settings.
  • Proven ability to prepare project proposals for land and recreation site & trail improvements/maintenance; gather and assemble supportive data describing the
    work to be done, present and propose use, cost and benefit, protect the environment, local interest, and work priority (e.g., project management).
  • Demonstrated regard for safety in all aspects of the working environment.
  • Ability and/or experience in the development, presentation, implementation, and administration of grants.
  • Position requires demonstrated ability to:

    • provide outstanding support services to customers;
    • work effectively in a Team environment;
    • remain flexible in a changing environment;
    • maintain a positive and professional attitude;
    • excellent written and oral communication skills.
