The Great Basin Institute (GBI), based in Reno, NV, is an interdisciplinary field studies organization that promotes environmental research, education, and conservation throughout the West. GBI seeks to advance ecological literacy, professional development, and resource management through educational outreach and direct service programs. Within GBI, the Research Associate (RA) Program focuses mainly on natural resources partnership projects with federal, state, and local land management agencies.
The Research Associate Program’s Recruitment Coordinator will work directly with the RA Program team and our AmeriCorps Compliance Manager to support all aspects of recruitment and onboarding field personnel and GBI placements across the West. This position will also work closely with members of our marketing and communications team, and people and culture department, to aid GBI with reaching its talent acquisition objectives and work culture initiatives.
This is a pilot position for the RA Program, intended to explore and develop a support role within the RA Program for recruitment and onboarding. The launch of this role is intended to provide recruitment support as a piece of coverage for one of our Program Coordinators that will be out on maternity leave. We hope to provide this position with the opportunity for professional development through cross-training and additional avenues of team support. This is a 6-month term position with the possibility of extension pending positive work performance and funding.
Essential Job Functions include the following:
- Work closely with Administrative Coordinator to advertise and market opportunities via GBI’s website, on-line job boards (Indeed, ZipRecruiter and Conservation Job Board) , newspapers, social media outlets, posters, public presentations, job fairs, community events, and other industry-specific outlets.
- Work closely with Program Coordinators on support for their recruitment pools (maintain applicant trackers for review, scheduling interviews, applicant mining, updating applicant statuses in CyberRecruiter).
- Take lead on select entry-level recruitment pools (screening, interviewing, and completing applicant reference checks).
- Take lead in the RA Program’s weekly outreach & recruitment meetings to provide regular updates to program staff on the status of recruitment efforts and initiatives.
- Work closely with AmeriCorps Compliance Manager and RA Program team to support recruitment wrap-up (closing CyberRecruiter pools, assigned onboarding tasks) and initiate onboarding (AmeriCorps background checks, living allowance and education award paperwork).
- Possible travel to local and out of state recruitment or job-fair events, if interested.
- Perform other tasks/ projects as assigned; the RA Program intends to provide this position with additional training and cross-training opportunities.
- This is an external facing role, engaging with candidates. It is critical this candidate maintains professionalism at all times; demeanor, communication, attitude.
Contract Timeline:
- This is a 6-month term position with the possibility of extension pending positive work performance and funding.
- This is a Full Time position.
- Ideal start date is ASAP, but we are willing to be flexible for the right person.
- 40 hours per week

Flexible hybrid schedule; time will be split between our GBI offices in Reno, NV and remote.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Wage: $19.23 – $20.67/hr DOE

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, communications, or a relevant field and/or demonstrated professional experience in equivalent combination.
- At least 1 year of experience in outreach, recruitment coordination or recruitment operations.
- A detail oriented and highly organized work style.
- Ability to effectively communicate information in person and in writing.
- Experience collaborating with colleagues, volunteers and teams for shared objectives.
- Ability to work in both self-driven and team environments.
- Knowledge or interest in social media and workforce development platforms, best practices, and emerging trends.
- Interest in opportunities for growth within position.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a recruiter in a high-volume recruitment environment (including software, best practices, or other focuses).
- Experience or knowledge of conservation, nonprofit management, or STEM industries – including prior fieldwork.
- Experience with AmeriCorps, as a member or support staff (GBI primarily places VISTA, EAP, and COMP).
- Knowledge of current Industry recruitment trends and successful outreach strategies to attract and retain top talent.
- Preference will be given to candidates with availability to start ASAP, in January 2023. However, we are flexible for the right candidate. Please indicate your availability in your application.
