Recycle Right Undergraduate/Graduate Student Intern

LOCATION: San José City Hall 200 E. Santa Clara St, San Jose, CA 95113. A hybrid work schedule maybe available based on supervisor approval and subject to City policy.

DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT: September 2024 – June 2025.

HOURS PER WEEK: Up to 20 hours per week during school. Up to 40 hours possible during school breaks (part-time). Occasional evening/weekend hours may be needed.

COMPENSATION:

  • Undergraduate Salary Range – $15.17 to $21.66/hour (unbenefited)*
  • Graduate Salary Range – $19.62 to $28.98/hour (unbenefited)*

*Salary ranges include a 5% ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

About the Communication Division
The Communications Division implements environmental-specific media, outreach, and marketing activities to support the health of our community and environment. The communication services division includes strategic communications planning, multi-cultural community engagement, media relations, social media, collateral development, and website management.

About the Internship

The Communication Division is seeking two (2) undergraduate or graduate student interns to support the Recycle Right Team and other ESD Programs in various outreach projects. Duties will be tailored to the chosen candidate’s skills, interests, and programmatic needs, but may include:

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge and ability to maintain and use websites, communications technology, and social media platforms.
  • Conduct market research to enhance public education campaigns and other marketing and advertising initiatives.
  • Support staffing for community engagement and outreach events and/or tables to promote ESD programs and messages.
  • Effectively organize and carry out multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Other duties and tasks of a similar nature as assigned.

Other Skills

  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and good time management.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with graphic, photography, video, multimedia, and presentation production.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

Undergraduate: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in an undergraduate program. Must be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship.

Graduate: Completion of a bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a master’s degree program from an accredited college or university. Must be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship.

Experience: None. Preference for candidates who demonstrate interest in communications and marketing.

Licenses & Certificates: Possession of a valid driver’s license authorizing the operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California may be required for some positions.
