SCOPE OF WORK

The Refugee Health Navigator oversees refugee health initiatives including navigating the U.S. healthcare system, educating refugees on various healthcare topics and acting as a liaison between the IRC in Missoula and community health partners. In addition, the Refugee Health Navigator is responsible for facilitating health access for refugees and other ORR-Eligible populations and improving their awareness of and ability to independently access health services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the design, coordination, and implementation of the Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) Grant and Program. The RHP Program must provide the following three services: 1) increasing health literacy, 2) coordinating physical and mental healthcare, and 3) organizing wellness groups.
  • Organize and deliver educational workshops for refugees and other ORR-Eligible populations about various healthcare topics with the goal of increasing health literacy.
  • In collaboration with relevant IRC teams, coordinate initial health appointment for newly arrived refugees. Take lead on subsequent coordination of follow-up appointments and referrals up to 60 months post-arrival.
  • Conduct health intakes and enrollments. Complete a Plan of Care (POC) for individuals enrolled in the RPH program.
  • Collaborate with other IRC teams and/or community partners to offer various wellness groups for refugees and other ORR-Eligible populations. Conduct pre- and post- assessments of wellness groups to gauge the value of the activity.
  • Track health outcomes, collect and analyze data, maintain health related case notes and case files, and ensure consistent compliance with funder requirements.
  • Maintain and improve existing community relationships. Generate new partnerships with local organizations to further community access to health programming.
  • Provide educational opportunities for community health partners regarding culturally competent care.
  • Participate in program meetings with IRC staff, community partners and the RHP grant funder. Participate in staff development activities and general office operations and support.
  • Transport clients to health appointments and provide bus training to all RHP clients.
  • Other related duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion or Social Work or equivalent education.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of work experience in health care, health education, or administration; preferably with diverse/refugee population
  • Familiar with Medicaid, US health care system, and refugee health needs/issues preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment and with limited-English speakers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong computer skill with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook); experience working in databases helpful
  • Well-organized with proven ability to prioritize duties and manage time effectively
  • Commitment to the IRC mission and core values
  • Valid driver’s license, current insurance and access to reliable transportation required. Ability to lift 50lbs.

Working Environment***:***

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

US Benefits: The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.

Part-time employees are eligible for a proportionate amount of paid time off. These additional benefits apply to employees who work at least 6 months within a 12 month time period.
