Position description

T1International is a global grassroots patient advocacy organisation led by people with and impacted by diabetes, with a focus on type 1 diabetes. We believe in a world where everyone with type 1 diabetes has the opportunity to thrive, with affordable and sustainable access to the medicine and supplies they need. We do not accept funding from the pharmaceutical industry or any medical device manufacturer to maintain our independence and ability to speak out freely.

About the Role

The role of the Regional Advocacy Consultant will be to coordinate our Global Advocacy Network members in their respective region by providing training and leadership development, and developing and implementing advocacy action plans on T1International’s priority campaigns and other projects. T1International is currently looking to contract three consultants, one in each of the above listed regions.

Scope of Services

Organizing and Volunteer Leadership Development (60%):

  • Engage and organise #insulin4all communities to grow and maintain an informed, active volunteer base who are working on T1International’s priorities globally.
  • Support regional volunteers in community building, including strategic goal-setting, skills development, campaign plan implementation, and otherwise carrying out actions.
  • Build relationships with advocates across the region and support them with coaching, leadership skills and T1International tools to achieve their goals

Campaigning, advocacy, and community building (30%):

  • Build and implement project plans for each assigned deliverable
  • Develop and implement country-specific advocacy actions and coordinated global campaigns and actions related to our Fight for Five goal campaign
  • Implement specific strategies and activities for actions and events (eg. World Diabetes Day, Global Day of Action, etc.)
  • Act as an external ambassador of the organisation, represent T1International to key external constituencies when needed, including both formal and informal presentations, such as making speeches and attending conferences and other meetings as necessary.

Other (10%):

  • Advance T1International’s equity and inclusion commitments by engaging in ongoing internal equity meetings and ensuring an ongoing focus on equity is integrated into all aspects of T1International’s work.
  • Track participation, campaign progress, and leadership development to achieve organisational goals in our database.

What T1International is looking for

  • A genuine belief in T1International’s mission and vision with a strong understanding and commitment to equity and healthcare justice, alongside a passion for issues that people living with diabetes face, and the need to bring the patient voice to the forefront.
  • Some transferable relevant experience, preferably on issues that fall within T1International’s strategic priorities or in a global context.
  • Experience managing and supporting volunteers to take action, leadership development within diverse cultures, and working with other organisations.
  • Strong training, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including an ability to form groups and navigate conflict and confusion in a manner that values and respects relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills; keen attention to detail.
  • Ambitious and results-oriented with a desire to learn, pitch-in, and anticipate needs through proactively taking action.
  • Comfortable executing big-picture strategy as well as detailed tactical plans.
  • Excels with Google Workspace (Drive and Documents, Google Meet, and Gmail), Zoom, WhatsApp, and other online communication.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral); other languages desirable.

Hours and expectations

  • As a contracted position, we expect deliverables to be complete within set timelines according to your own schedule. We estimate the position to be somewhere around 32 hours of work per month, though this may vary. The compensation is $500/month.
  • T1International operating hours are generally aligned with standard US business hours; the staff team practises a 4-day work week Monday-Thursday. The consultant will be expected to attend regular meetings scheduled during those hours, as well as some meetings and calls with volunteers at times that work for them in their time zone, including weeknights and weekends.
  • T1International is a purely remote office environment. You should be prepared to work from home or a location of your choosing.
