Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.
INSO provides daily support to more than 1200 NGOs operating in 17 of the world’s most insecure countries.
INSO is registered in the Netherlands with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.
INSO Syria
The INSO Syria platform supports 237 organizations to deliver aid and assistance to millions of people in need nationwide. First launched as an emergency response operation in 2015, INSO Syria maintains complete geographic coverage of Syria. It serves partners based and operating in all Syria response hubs with INSO field offices in Beirut and Northeast Syria. It maintains its country office in Amman, Jordan. The Syria crisis is unique and complex, and it continues to be a conflict and emergency response environment.
Job Summary
As Regional Analyst, you will bring critical regional perspective to INSO’s programming by leveraging a mix of research and engagement skills. In this post you will have the opportunity to provide analysis and advice that is both operationally impactful to field staff and relevant to strategic decision makers based in regional hubs. You will be capable of translating complex dynamics into accessible analysis, engagement and network building. You will also help develop INSO’s internal capacity reinforcing best practices among its teams. This position is based in Amman, Jordan and reports to the Country Director- Syria.
Main responsibilities
You will be responsible for delivering a suite a of products assessing regional factors that impact humanitarian safety and access.
Service Delivery
- Prepare and produce reports that assist NGO partners by assessing prevalent regional conflict dynamics and their impact on humanitarian safety and access.
- Manage and deliver ad-hoc products on emerging regional challenges to humanitarian safety and access.
- Contribute to other country office products and inform decision-making at the regional level.
- Offer a responsive, tailored analysis service directly to INSO’s NGO partners upon their request.
- Convene and contribute to regional NGO coordination meetings and fora with humanitarian counterparts to discuss regional safety and access.
Program Development
- Monitor regional developments through a diverse range of sources, such as NGOs, the UN, civil society organisations, research institutes and media outlets.
- Cultivate an active network of contacts within the broader humanitarian community as well as other relevant stakeholders for information sharing, analytical exchanges and coordination.
- Liaise and coordinate with Analysis and Research team to enable analytical capacity building in the country office.
- Effectively represent and protect INSO’s principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality as well as actively promoting INSO within the humanitarian community.
Requirements
- Exemplary command of English
- Graduate-level education in political science, history, or humanitarian studies, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Proven ability to provide operationally relevant analysis to a wide-ranging audience
- A minimum of three years of work experience in an analytical capacity preferably working on conflict or post-conflict contexts
- Experience working in humanitarian NGOs, international organisations, or journalism
- Acceptance and strong understanding of humanitarian principles
- Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety practices and their application
- Excellent networking, diplomatic, and representative communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience working on countries in the Middle East preferred
- Knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish would be an asset
- Experience delivering a partner-focused advisory service
- Experience design and delivering products based on close partner engagement
- Existing regional experience and/or information networks
- Experience in insecure/conflict-affected environments
- Experience in staff capacity development and training
- Detailed understanding of INSO’s mandate & services

Terms & Conditions:
12-month renewable contract. €5000 per month salary, 4 calendar days annual leave per month and 3 days of R&R every 3 months, global medical coverage (excluding USA) and AD&D insurance.
