Regional Climate Change Assessment Consultant, Southern Africa

Location: Pretoria or any of these countries – Malawi, Zambia, Madagascar and Mozambique

Deadline: 06 December 2023

To Conduct a 5 country Regional Assessment on the status of Implementation of WASH components of NDCs and NAPs by National Governments (in Malawi, Zambia, Madagascar, South Africa, and Mozambique) to generate evidence to inform WaterAid Southern Africa advocacy and policy influencing. The assessment will also make an analysis of Gender and youth inclusion into the NAPs and NDCs to understand the extent to which the NAPs and NDCs are gender and youth inclusive.

Required Qualifications and Experience

We require one Regional Consultant who has links /could appoint local consultants in the respective focus countries to help with interviews and primary data collection for the duration of data collection period only. However, the writing of the report and the completion of work is the responsibility of the Regional consultant.

Both Regional, National, and sub-national level consultant should have in-depth understanding of NDCs and NAPs processes and WASH sector. It is expected that the Regional and local consultant will have the following qualifications and experience.

  • At least 10 years of work experience in research and development related to WASH and climate change adaptations in Southern Africa countries
  • At least a degree in natural resources management, climate change, health sciences, water, and environmental studies/ management, etc.
  • Knowledge of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and another climate adaptation and mitigation plans is an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in the application of qualitative data collection methods and tools
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills (for consultative meetings, and focus group discussions)
  • Knowledge of the national policies, strategies, and programs in the countries above where WaterAid has presence, related to WASH and climate change will be an added advantage
