Alstom also supports 66% of the UK fleet through its Services business and is the UK’s leading CP6 signalling & infrastructure provider.Employing 6,000 people across the UK and Ireland, we design, build and test trains at the UK’s largest end-to-end train manufacturing factory in Derby and operate major sites at Widnes, Crewe, Ilford and Plymouth, as well as 30 train services depots across the UK&ICould you be the full-time Regional Commercial Manager we’re looking for?Your future roleTake on a new challenge and manage the DIS Commercial Team in the Southern, Western & Ireland region of the UK, achievement of the Company’s financial performance targets and goals and providing support, focus and motivation of the Commercial Team to optimise margins for the Company. Close liaison with Client stakeholders and senior project staff of Alstom and clients to ensure customer satisfaction while protecting Alstom from commercial risk.The Regional Commercial Manager is the key Commercial role supporting Project and Bid Management and interfaces with all other supporting disciplines.Key areas are:1. 8. Business StrategySuccessful performance will protect the company’s position and ensure maximum financial benefit. Interfaces with Senior, Regional and Local Project and Bid teams to ensure Alstom performance reflects or beats set targets. The role reports to the Regional Director (SW&I). The role will have a geographical area of responsibility which aligns with the Network Rail’s Regions, Southern, Western & Ireland.We’ll look to you for:

  • Submission, agreement and payment of Interim Applications and Final Accounts are timely and paid in full. Final Accounts are agreed within 6 months of contract completion. Margin is maximised and not less than tendered margin levels.
  • Strategies for maximising cash-flow are in place and cash-flow forecasting is accurate and regularly updated.
  • Risk registers at Project level are complete and risks are accurately assessed and re-assessed to meet company reporting requirements. Key commercial business risks are identified and communicated to the SLT together with mitigation strategies and updated as required.
  • Liabilities arising from project activities are reflected in forecasting and reporting. Contract Disputes are managed and direction is provided to achieve avoidance or early resolution within 3 months of identification. Compliance with legal requirements is monitored and assured.
  • Reporting is challenged to ensure accuracy and appropriate reports are delivered to the SLT in line with requirements. Supporting documentation is provided to meet business reports, including accurate Cost and Value to Complete and scenario planning.
  • Support is provided to the Regional Director, Project Directors and Departmental heads for all commercial activity. Sub- contractors are managed and controlled from procurement to final account. As required, the company is represented at industry, project, business and client meetings.
  • Commercial strategy and contract reviews are developed supporting the tender process and governance requirements, ensuring key risks are identified and managed under the tender strategy.
  • A robust commercial team is developed and managed, prioritising balancing permanent staff and minimising reliance on agency and contract staff. Commercial and Claims Awareness training to other departments is provided. Relationships within Project Teams and with Client, subcontractors and suppliers are developed and continuously improved. Professional standards are improved.
  • Contributions are made to the development and achievement of Corporate strategy, targets and budget.
  • To comply with, undertake and promote all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures, responsibilities and activities.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Professional Qualified as Chartered Quantity Surveyor or equivalent

Experience:

  • Contractor background with strong multi-discipline D&B experience
  • Detailed working knowledge of construction industry standard forms of contract
  • Experience with disputes and their resolution
  • Proven success in management of Commercial and Quantity Surveying teams

Desirable:Skills:

  • A good understanding of current construction legislation
  • Ability to deliver training to commercial and non-commercial audiences relating to contracts.

Experience:

  • Rail, signalling in particular.
  • Heavy Civils / Infrastructure
  • Managing teams at a distance
