Regional Coordinator IDMC – Asia & Pacific

This is an exciting opportunity to provide oversight, coordination, and supervision of Monitoring Associates (MAs) per region, as well as to lead in directing and developing IDMC’s methodologies for monitoring internal displacement related to conflict, disaster, and development.

What we are looking for:

NRC is seeking a highly qualified “Regional Coordinator IDMC – Asia & Pacific” with experience coordinating, managing or leading teams in a research or analytical capacity. The ideal candidate relevant experience in research, analysis, reporting, and managing quantitative data.

What you will do:

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

Coordination and line management

  • Provide line management, evaluation, and performance review of MEs, including acting as a mentor and assisting MEs to address monitoring processes and challenges.
  • Ensure monitoring guidance and standards are implemented, followed, and updated as required (coordinating with other Monitoring Managers).
  • Supervise the detection of displacement events in the region, including managing the collection and triangulation of information to ensure that data is accurate, timely and collected at the appropriate spatial and temporal scales.
  • Identify displacement trends and analysis including documenting data gaps, challenges, and opportunities to support engagement, partnerships and IDMC’s strategic vision.
  • Oversee the quality assurance (QA) of data and sources for the region to ensure the quality and consistency of the data in HELIX and of various monitoring outputs (internal displacement updates, figures analyses, contextual analyses etc.)

Research and Analysis

  • Act as the regional expert – developing regional analysis and providing contextual updates.
  • Identify trends and questions in the region that may require further research.
  • Be the regional focal point for drafting and contributing to a range of products including annual and regional reports, thematic reports, technical papers/analyses, talking points, etc.
  • Liaise regularly with other departments and regional teams on analytical priorities and synergies between monitoring and analytical products.
  • Connect with data providers and other partners to ensure regional analyses are updated and accurate while developing a solid network of contacts in the region.
  • Support country analysis by the MEs.
  • Assist in monitoring of internal displacement that includes collecting, analyzing, and uploading data to HELIX.

Technical development

  • Assist in developing internal and external monitoring tools and data platforms to support regional teams and partners.
  • Provide user feedback on information management tools and processes.
  • Document and coordinate ways to improve monitoring and data management.

Project support

  • Act as focal point for projects relevant to the region; delegating tasks to MEs when needed.
  • Where appropriate, travel to support projects, training, capacity building, or partner engagement.

What you will bring:

  • Master’s degree in international affairs, social sciences, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, information science or related field.
  • Experience coordinating, managing or leading teams in a research or analytical capacity.
  • Five years of relevant experience in research, analysis, reporting, and managing quantitative data.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to achieve results and find solutions to problems.
  • Significant experience maintaining relationships with various types of organizations.
  • Can perform well under pressure and ability to deliver under tight deadlines when necessary.
  • Previous experience coordinating small to medium sized teams to achieve results.
  • Provided oversight on the quality control of data and research outputs, including summarizing and drafting analysis based on this activity.
  • Extensive knowledge or background of the geographical region and experience with displacement or migration topics, particularly in the areas of disasters, conflict and/or development in the region.
  • Strong skills and experience in analysing and reviewing data to produce concise analytical products.
  • An understanding of internal displacement policies, processes, and challenges in the context of conflict, violence, disasters, and development.
  • Experience developing data standards, databases, and information management systems.
  • Competence in the use of Word, Excel, databases, and online research tools for the capture, organization, and analysis of information.
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in another language relevant in the region will be an asset.

  • Contract: National permanent contract.
  • Salary/benefits: Grade 8 on NRC’s regional salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
