Position Title: Regional Director – Asia
Department: Asia Ministry Team (AMT)
Reports to: Chief Program & Impact Officer
Status: Full time, Salaried
PURPOSE
Located in the Asia region, this position is responsible for the overall shaping of the vision and mission of World Renew’s work in Asia in alignment with World Renew’s global strategic plan. Reporting to the Chief Program and Impact Officer this Senior Leadership Role is a member of World Renew’s Strategic Management Circle. In addition to their close collaboration with and supervision of Country Directors and regional staff this leader will work closely with the heads of program support streams and other regional, functional, and fundraising teams to collaborate on programmatic interventions, communications, fundraising, and advocacy work to advance the impact of World Renew in the Asia Region.
Working with our Country teams across the Asia Region, and building on a foundation of partners, congregations and Christian leaders working in and engaging with communities in acts of Biblical justice and compassion, the Regional Director will provide leadership in a region seeking to improve food security, build sustainable livelihoods and increase the use of household resources to improve maternal and child health. The Regional Director will be responsible for building stronger communities and partners through collaborative regional and country teams under a unified vision of community transformation in Asia, with a particular focus on programming in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India and Laos.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Development & Oversight.
With Country Directors and other regional staff, lead and deliver a strategic change process across Asia Country Offices, including assessing the most appropriate ‘footprint’ for World Renew in Asia (and regionally) and adapt as/where needed. A roadmap and strategy has been developed but this will require on-going reflection and modification to adjust to the operating environment, as such the Regional Director will be expected to;
• Support evolving Country Offices and their partners through transition in strategy and business plan development and implementation.
• Lead regional strategy implementation, while keeping abreast of constantly shifting Asia regional & country dynamics , trends, as well as international politics and country context changes that influence operational realities and opportunities.
• Ensure that country programs in the region have strategies and roles that are aligned with the organisational Strategic Plan and optimizes World Renew’s impact and relevance within the contexts, both for long-term development as well as in preparedness for and response to humanitarian crises;
• Ensure alignment and coherence between regional, country, program, and World Renew wide strategies and initiatives.
• Guide and support the evolution of World Renew’s role, presence and changes to operating models in countries and the region to strengthen World Renew’s legitimacy, localisation, accountability, relevance, impact, and efficiency;
• Communicate World Renew’s strategies to stakeholders; foster strategic partnerships across World Renew and with external strategic groups to support greater reach and impact; articulate World Renew’s value added role as a convener, honest broker and advocate with those we seek to serve.
• Oversee multi-year and annual operating planning processes (i.e. strategic and operational plans) in the region;
• Provide oversight and support to the execution of strategies and change management within the region.
Representation Networking & Influence
In support of World Renew’s evolving presence in the Asia region and growing representation of our partners and communities;
• Represent World Renew to all parties and stakeholders including members of our networks, regional decision making bodies, donors, civil society and other organizations.
• Act as a conduit for our country teams and partners to our external networks, alliances and movements to harness the power of new and diverse actors.
• Serve as a catalyst for and broker of multi-sector regional programming and advocating the strength of role we can play in this space for our partners and potential donors.
• Diversify World Renew’s funding partnership profile across multiple levels; identify and cultivate strategic partnerships (private sector, research etc.)
• Actively nurture and convene World Renew’s role with regional civil society organizations.
People & Culture, Talent Development and Succession Management
While encouraging effective teamwork and inclusiveness, building a team spirit and culture characterized by a shared vision, commitment and mutual accountability the Regional Director will provide ongoing supervision, leadership, support and guidance to Country Directors and Regional staff through:
• Monitoring staff morale and communicating regularly with direct reports around performance, challenges and support needs in areas of country strategy, representation and resource mobilization;
• Visiting country offices;
• Organising and leading Regional Team Meetings.
• Encouraging spiritual foundations to the work and arranging appropriate spiritual retreats;
• Using World Renew’s performance management tools and processes and set annual performance objectives for direct reports;
• Conduct semi-annual performance reviews, providing clear feedback on both accomplishments and areas for improvement;
Lead the development of staff talent in the region through:
• Orientation of staff to their respective roles, using the Onboarding to Mastery process in coordination with the Staff Developer;
• Ensuring that appropriate development plans are implemented for senior management and other key talent in country offices and the region;
Leadership, Management & Resourcing
The Regional Director will work with Global, Regional and Country support staff to ensure that program quality, program support, risk management and financial oversight are provided to Country Offices, and that quarterly performance and risk management information is analyzed and shared.
• Ensure that Country teams and partners have the support required from regional support staff and global support streams to deliver maximum programmatic impact across the region.
• Hold Country Directors under his/her supervision accountable to provide an appropriate level of quality and effectiveness of World Renew’s programmatic interventions across the region.
• Keep abreast of country and regional changes and manage any operational, presence and structural change processes effectively, ensuring communication with, and support for staff through the changes.
• Ensure staff are familiar with World Renew’s vision, mission, Humanitarian Mandate and Program Principles, and that there is clear understanding of World Renew’s mandate as an emergency, justice and development organization.
• Support Humanitarian Assistance interventions, as necessary, by setting and implementing a healthy collaborative relationship with the Humanitarian Emergency and Affairs team to effectively integrate disaster response work with community development and peace building and justice interventions.
• Participate in World Renew organization-wide teams, committees and working groups and contribute to organising these initiatives.
• Monitor and uphold best practice humanitarian principles and program quality standards in World Renew’s Programmatic work with particular focus on the implementation of the Core Humanitarian Standard and our commitments made to the populations we serve under this framework.
• Monitor country office performance on safety and security oversight, ensuring that risk is effectively assessed, managed, treated or mitigated and hold senior managers accountable for the same.
• Develop and implement appropriate resource acquisition strategies for the region, including developing a regional support plan to identify and address gaps between resource needs and probable resource acquisition and which ensures the financial viability of programs, partnerships and operations within the region.
• Oversee the management of financial and related resources to ensure they are used effectively to maximise impact. Review finance reports, authorisations, finance reviews and budgets in collaboration with the CPIO and CFIO.
• With approval of the CPIO and CFIO, allocate unrestricted funds to country offices and regional activities, based on regional needs and priorities.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrated leadership in integrated development programs and ability to oversee operational risk and staff safety in fragile, moderate risk contexts.
• Technical experience in humanitarian programs.
• Proven ability to set strategic direction, manage high performing teams and lead change processes.
• Strong experience with MERL (Measurement Evaluation Research & Learning) and how to utilise it to make informed programmatic decisions.
• Experience developing and helping secure funds for programs and services, preferably from Asia-Pacific philanthropic donors (e.g., foundations, major gifts) or multi/bilateral donors (e.g. USAID, Asian Development Bank).
• An ability to build and sustain strong relationships with donors, government ministries (finance, health), and partner organizations. Experience working on multilateral or bilateral funded programs. Ability to work collaboratively with partners and other civil society actors
• Experience managing or overseeing budget of $5 million+/year. Solid financial oversight skills. Understanding of key governments compliance regulations.
• Ability to effectively develop, lead and provide strategic direction to a diverse and inclusive team of leaders across a vast/diverse region.
• A commitment to and a strong understanding of Integral mission and how to live this out across the context.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Country Directors, Program consultants, Program advisors, and other regional and country staff as applicable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Master’s degree in a related field is required.
• A minimum of 10 years of cross-cultural work experience in community development or organizational development with sectoral expertise in food security, health, and livelihoods programming in Asia.
• Over 10 years senior management position in the humanitarian and development field in at least 2 countries in Asia is highly desirable.
• Previous Country Director experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Outstanding Communications skills (written, verbal – English and knowledge of any South or Southeast Asian language an advantage) and Advocacy skills, with demonstrated ability to engage and influence South and Southeast Asia policy makers and donors.
