About RWI
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) has worked for forty years to promote respect for human rights through research, education and capacity development. We believe that by supporting practitioners and bringing people together around human rights, based on new knowledge and tools developed, connecting theory and practice, we contribute to lasting human rights change.

RWI is an independent academic institution established at Lund University in Sweden in 1984. We combine multi-disciplinary human rights research with education, capacity building, and outreach to contribute to a wider understanding of, and respect for, human rights and humanitarian law. We work with four thematic areas within human rights: ‘access to justice’, ‘non-discrimination and inclusion’, ‘human rights and the environment’ and ‘business and human rights.
Since the early 1990s, we have cooperated with a wide range of institutions and organisations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, to advance the practical application of human rights around the world. Our cooperation is characterised by mutual trust, long-term commitment, and achievement of common objectives. Currently, we have offices in Harare, Jakarta, Lund, Nairobi, Phnom Penh, and Yerevan.

About the position
RWI is establishing a permanent presence in Bangkok, Thailand and recruiting a Regional Director who will ensure the effective planning, management, coordination and follow-up of budgets, development activities across thematic areas, as well as lead on strategic resource mobilization.
The Regional Director’s mandate is to achieve the above expected results, especially around strategic resource mobilisation to ensure a sustainable presence, growth and durable work in the region. The Regional Director will enhance the overall impact, quality and coordination of RWI’s activities in the region by also strategically leading the work at country-level in close partnership with Country Directors. The incumbent will ensure that RWI’s resources are managed efficiently including strengthening the collaboration between regions to enhance cross-fertilization of horizontal exchange and learning.
The position requires periodic travel to activity sites to successfully implement the duties above.

Successful candidates will have significant experience from relevant work in the Asia Pacific region and a successful track record of handling all aspects of programme management in the areas of human rights and development cooperation.
You are a leader with at least ten years of management experience with a strong understanding of the socio-political country and regional context that allows you to quickly gather and analyse information relevant to RWI strategies, expanding RWI access to human rights and development networks in the region.
You are fluent in both written and spoken English and your knowledge of others regional or Nordic languages is an advantage to you. Finally, you are a proven fundraiser, with documented success of cultivating new partnerships. The assignment is two-years with possibility of extension upon the decision by the Executive Director. The Regional Director reports to the Director of Operations, unless otherwise agreed.
