Overview
The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Overview of Program:
CHAI’s global malaria and neglected tropical disease (NTD) program provides direct technical and operational support to countries around the globe to strengthen their programs and reduce the burden of preventable, treatable diseases. We support governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short-term and accelerating progress towards elimination of malaria and NTDs in the long term.
Overview of Role:
CHAI is seeking a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and mission-driven individual with strong public health management experience and communication skills to join a fun and collaborative team who are dedicated to the mission of eliminating malaria and NTDs in Africa.
The Regional Manager will have significant opportunity to shape CHAI’s approach to supporting malaria and NTD programs across a set of countries. They will work with CHAI’s country and technical teams to devise evidence-based strategic plans, manage communications across countries, regions, and teams, organize CHAI’s work, and provide effective leadership to execute high-impact programs.
The successful candidate does not need to have prior expertise in malaria or NTDs, but they must have the capacity to rapidly absorb new concepts and be comfortable communicating these to a technical audience. They will have a deep personal commitment to producing results, be able to work independently to drive success and willing to provide support to different tasks large or small. They will have strong team management and leadership skills and the capacity to facilitate high-level strategic discussions with a multi-cultural, multidisciplinary set of actors.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a thought partner and contribute to a technically sound strategic vision for reducing the burden of malaria and NTDs across the region.
- Communicate effectively across a matrixed organization, and coordinate CHAI teams and resources to ensure specific project goals are met.
- Foster a strong team culture based on CHAI’s values, resulting in a cohesive and productive team.
- Work with CHAI Program Managers to ensure that achievable project plans are in place and integrated with team and government priorities.
- Organize and monitor program activities against project goals and donor commitments.
- Together with CHAI’s technical teams, promote the routine use of data and analysis to evaluate effectiveness of current interventions and inform strategic planning.
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and work collaboratively with CHAI teams to achieve exceptional results on aggressive timelines.
- Provide inputs to technical deliverables (e.g. strategic plans, guidelines) and organize development of donor reports, concept notes or other products for external communication.
- Rapidly digest and synthesize complex technical, political and operational information and expertly tailor results, outputs and action items to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and manage relationships with key regional stakeholders, including government officials, donors, and academic organizations to foster collaboration.
- Identify new opportunities within and outside the initial project scope, anticipate risks and be proactive in responding to them.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health, business administration, or relevant field
- Minimum of 6 years work experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to develop and deliver persuasive and visually compelling presentations
- Exceptional problem-solving solving skills
- Experience in project or program management
- Experience in strategy development, planning, and project implementation
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, connect the dots, and think ‘outside the box’
- Experience in capacity building, mentorship, and management of remote or decentralized teams
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments and challenges
- Strong work ethic, integrity, credibility, and dedication to CHAI’s mission
- High levels of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Willingness to travel 25-30%
Preferences:
- Experience working at CHAI
- Knowledge of malaria, NTDs or other global infectious disease priorities
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Experience working and communicating with government officials an multilateral organizations
