The main objective of our international strategy is to strengthen access to health and strengthen the protection of people affected by conflicts and crises, including climate disasters.

We are actively seeking an experienced and dynamic Regional Representative to lead our team in the Africa Region, a pivotal role in our joint mission to bring positive change to communities facing adversity. This role offers a unique opportunity to foster collaborative relationships and lead the implementation of our international strategy within the African region.

Purpose:

The purpose of the regional representative is to achieve the humanitarian objectives in Norwegian Red Cross’ international strategy through strategic leadership of the regional team and resources, and purposeful external relations.

Strategic Responsibilities:

  1. Secure implementation of the international strategy in the region, by establishing and following up strategic direction through regional frameworks and annual plans.
  2. Ensure efficient leadership and promote optimal use of resources by ensuring purposeful collaboration within the regional team, with other regions, and with the National office.
  3. Oversee strategic relationship management with Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, donors, and external partners.

Qualifications:

Formal Competence:

  • University degree.

Professional Experience:

  • Successful track record from managing humanitarian teams in complex emergencies.
  • Excellent networking capabilities
  • Outstanding people skills, and an ability to enable collaboration in complex settings.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and overcome barriers.
  • Field-level experience in implementing humanitarian projects.
  • In-depth understanding of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement an asset.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in English; working proficiency in regional languages is an asset.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Exceptional ability to lead and develop people.
  • Strong communication skills with a knack for effective collaboration.
  • Convincing and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Proven ability to build robust relations and networks within the humanitarian sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment, adapting strategies as needed.
  • High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity, fostering a diverse and inclusive working environment.
  • Capacity to navigate ambiguity and resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
  • Strong strategic thinking and vision, aligning actions with the long-term goals of the organization.

Reporting to:

  • Head of Operations, Oslo

Position is based in:

  • Nairobi, Kenya

Contract length:

  • 24 Months (Accompanied position)
