Location: In-person working at SIHA Regional office in Kampala Uganda or remotely, with 25% travel to SIHA areas of operation

About the position: This critical regional position will consolidate SIHA’s work as an advocacy institution. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the SIHA Regional Director and SIHA Regional Programme Manager and will collaborate and work closely with the communication team.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Consistent knowledge generation about the Horn of Africa (HoA) and relevant regions, as well as ongoing gender equality policy analysis.
  • Exert evidence-based policy influence and share information to enhance participation in the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) at all levels and identify gaps and issues in implemented policies and legislative frameworks.
  • Establishing partnerships and promoting networks in the region and beyond. Popularize SIHA knowledge products by supporting panel discussions and presentations on global and regional platforms.
  • Support SIHA’s participation in regional and international human rights and policy platforms.
  • Work closely with SIHA teams in SIHA countries to examine the status of gender equality, women’s human rights, and partners of VAW/G (Violence Against Women and Girls) and plan and design advocacy strategies in collaboration with them.
  • Oversee and guide SIHA’s connection to regional and international media outlets.
  • Update and maintain a database of regional experts on various thematic areas.
  • Establish mechanisms to encourage Network members and affiliates to initiate and develop individual and /or team advocacy research activities.
  • Collaborating on the development and implementation of advocacy plans
  • Collaborate and lead on the drafting of SIHA reports, press statements and other written and oral outputs in accordance with SIHA advocacy objectives and guidelines
  • Establish partnerships with organizations with similar advocacy goals and strategies

Education and experience:

  • Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of related experience, with a master’s degree being the ideal.
  • The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a research and advocacy capacity with civil society, feminist, women’s peace and security, and/or human rights organizations in the Horn of Africa or other relevant global South regions.
  • Candidates should have broad knowledge and understanding of the Horn of Africa, global social, human, and women’s rights, WPS frameworks and challenges, and social protection issues.
  • An understanding of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, as well as summative and formative research models, is required.
  • Strong writing, editing, and revising skills are essential, along with the ability to review and draft advocacy papers and reports.
