The role involves networking, collaboration and partnerships, as well as data collection, intergovernmental coordination, capacity-building, scientific assessment, and providing policy advice for mainstreaming biodiversity and ecosystem management in UNEP LACO Programme of Work. Specific tasks and responsibilities 1. Serve as networking and partnerships for the Nature Action Subprogramme for the Latin America and the Caribbean Office. a. Participate in the planning and programming activities of the regional office. b. Contribute to the curation of information on UNEP’s activities related to nature in the region. c. Provides technical support to the regional office for the nature-related activities led by UNEP’s technical divisions. d. Contribute from the LAC Office in the co-creation of concept notes and proposals related to the implementation of UNEP’s Programme of Work related to nature action, particularly from a networking, collaborations and partnerships perspective. e. Contribute to the programme development, implementation and resource mobilization for Ecosystem Management subprogramme in the region: f. Contribute to the political and technical analysis related to biodiversity conducted by the regional office. 2. Support the implementation of UNEP’s GBF strategy in LAC a. Collaborate in the planning and implementation of UNEP’s GBF strategy in LAC b. In close collaboration with subregional offices, support the identification of needs and priorities related to biodiversity from Member States in the region. c. Facilitates regional consultations and national level activities towards the implementation of biodiversity-related Conventions and regional agreed priorities. d. Maintain regular contacts with UN Agencies and biodiversity-related Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) Secretariats to provide support to their activities in the region, considering the regional priorities and with a focus on networking and partnerships. e. Contribute technically to UNEPs internal network on National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and to regional consultations, trainings and workshops. 3. Contribute to the promotion and adoption of the UN Common Biodiversity Approach on Biodiversity a. In collaboration with the Secretariat of the UN Environment Management Group, participate in the coordination of activities for the promotion and adoption of the Common Approach in LAC. b. Design and cooperate in nature-related activities of the Issue Based Coalition on Climate and Resilience for Latin America and the Caribbean. c. Collaborate in the integration of biodiversity in UNEP’s inputs to the Common Country Analyses and Cooperation Frameworks in LAC 4. Coordinate the activities of the Working Group on Biodiversity of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean a. Develop and implement a plan to reactivate the Working Group on Biodiversity of the Forum of Ministers of Environment b. Coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings of this group. c. Provide guidance to the implementation of activities of the group, with emphasis on topics such as bioeconomy and finance. d. Contribute to the activities of the Forum of Ministers, including the organization of Ministerial and High Level Officers meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), located in Panama City, Panama, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) helps to implement UNEP’s global programs in the regions by initiating, coordinating and catalyzing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies. The consultant will provide technical expertise to UNEP´s activities in Latin America and the Caribbean to help delivering the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). As such, the incumbent will help engaging and promoting collaboration across a wide range of actors, including government, UN system, private sector and academia, in the context of UNEP’s activities related to the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity in the region. The role includes working with subregional offices in the identification of biodiversity-related needs, priorities and opportunities in LAC; supporting the Ecosystems Division (and other divisions as relevant) in the implementation of UNEP’s GBF strategy in the region; promoting and facilitating the activities of the Working Group on Biodiversity of the Regional Forum of Ministers of Environment; contributing to the mainstreaming and implementation of the UN Common Biodiversity Approach in LAC, including through the work of the Issue Based Coalition on Climate and Resilience, as well as with the work with Resident Coordinators and UN Country and Multi-Country Teams; participating and contributing to the cocreation of nature-related project concepts and proposals; and participating and contributing in other activities of the LAC Office as needed. The role is primarily focused on networking, partnerships and collaboration, but might also involve data collection, capacity-building, scientific assessment, and providing policy advice for mainstreaming biodiversity and ecosystem management in UNEP LACO Programme of Work. The incumbent will be supervised by the Regional Director and Representative of UNEP LACO; she/he will from UNEP Office located in Brasilia, Brazil, 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, full time.
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Requirements: • A Bachelor’s degree in areas related to communications, social sciences or sustainable development is required. • A Master’s degree in the specified fields of studies is desired. • Additional studies in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage. Professional experience: • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications and environmental affairs is required. • Experience in managing initiatives in the field of biodiversity and ecosystems is desirable. • Experience in the United Nations system or other international organization is desirable. • Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Language: • Fluency in English is required. • Fluency in Spanish is required. • Knowledge of Portuguese is desirable.
