Registered Nurse -Intermediate (UTHP Primary Care Clinic)

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, provides direct nursing care to patients in a healthcare facility. Responsible for preparing equipment and aiding physician during treatment and examination of patients.

This position will be 50% face to face patient care at our Medical Management Program clinic located at the May’s Cancer Center and 50% in office virtual visit work at the PARC for the Primary Care Clinic-Virtual Cafe Clinic.

Job Duties:

For face-to-face patient care:

1.     Assists assigned medical provider and mid-level in the clinical setting including but not limited to: the physical examination of patients, performing complex medical testing and providing interpretations of results, consulting with physicians and implements treatment plan and the administration of medications and injections as needed.

2.     Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly.

3.     Ensures all chart preparation is complete and ready for clinic.

4.     Works closely with assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow up appointments, diagnostic tests, etc. are scheduled accordingly per medical provider/mid-level orders.

5.     Calls-in prescriptions and refills for patients.

6.     Obtains prior authorization as needed on medications, diagnostic tests, and other medical procedures.

7.     Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members.

8.     Assists and arranges for hospital admissions as needed.

9.     Follows-up on diagnostic tests and labs, and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.

 

For in office virtual care:

 

1.     Provides nursing care to patients in a virtual environment via telephone and/or electronic communication for the Primary Care Center Virtual Café clinic using the Primary Care Center policies and procedures.

2.     Assists assigned medical providers and mid-levels including but not limited to: providing clinicians interpretations of results, consulting with clinicians and communicating with patients their care plans.

3.     Calls-in prescriptions and refills for patients.

4.     Triages patient calls and works closely with PCC clinical staff and clinicians.

5.     Follows-up on diagnostic tests and labs, and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.

6.     Documents all patient care interactions in the electronic medical record.

7.     Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education:

Associate’s degree is required.

Experience:

Three (3) years of professional nursing experience is required.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

Current Texas RN license required; CPR required.
