Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Medical Director and Nurse Manager, guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with physician/provider staff, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for patients. The nurse provides excellent clinical care, telephone advice, patient education, and care coordination to the pediatric outpatient surgical specialties population. The CN II will comply with the Medical Center house and Telephone Standards. The CN II is accountable for their own practice and has primary responsibility for utilizing nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. The CN II carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required and performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. The CN II is recognized as a leader and clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and organization. The CN II serves as resource for all clinical staff and initiates and participates in patient and leads staff education.

The CN II is also responsible for providing direct patient care in the Pediatric Surgical Specialties, including taking on the role of Charge RN throughout all clinics when needed, performing Pediatric Urology procedures, and assisting with minor surgical procedures in Pediatric Dermatology, and any other departments that fall within Surgical Specialties. 

The CNII, while partnering with the Nurse Manager, will actively engage staff in performance improvement work throughout the clinics, accomplishment and success in achieving UCSF True North goals, staff education, and employee engagement.  The CNII must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Three to five years of recent RN clinical experience
  • One year of Outpatient RN experience
  • One year of Pediatric RN experience
  • Must be able to provide documented evidence of competency in the required skills
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
  • The Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Centers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an academic medical setting/hospital
  • Prior experience as a Charge RN
  • Prior experience in Performance Improvement or Staff education
  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in Nursing degree preferred

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
