The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Reporting to the Senior Policy and Project Officer, Nursing and Midwifery Exams Centre, the Regulatory Advisor – Registration (Exam Coordination and Operations) is responsible for the coordination of examinations and supporting the maintenance of the procedural framework. The role will have a strong focus on the experience of candidates and staff, and long-term sustainability and integrity of the assessment pathway; and maintaining sustainable internal and external pathways for collaboration between the external provider and the relevant Ahpra operational and policy teams.

You will drive the performance and quality of team members, implement efficient and effective processes, and ensure adherence to national organisational policies and procedures in line with operational best practice.

This is a full time, fixed term position, available for twelve months with a possibility of extension, and can be based in any of our Ahpra Offices.

In this role you will:

  • Provide exceptional people leadership and support to your team
  • Maintain the ongoing governance and procedures that will integrate with Ahpra’s operational procedures and processes
  • Maintain the operational procedures and processes for, and undertake, the coordination of the examinations in collaboration with multiple teams and Directorates (Business Units)
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice on best practice exam coordination, requirements, and test cases, including reporting and quality assurance approaches
  • Provide advice and contribute to the identification and management of issues with policy, procedures, practices and processes
  • Resolve team and individual performance issues in a timely and effective manner
  • Ensure the delivery of an excellent customer experience through the provision of high quality service and respond to and resolve escalated customer concerns as required.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Hands on people leadership skills and experience managing a high performing team, minimum 1 year
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the coordination of examination and assessment processes.
  • Demonstrated ability in supporting sustainable governance and procedural frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering change in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognise and resolve critical and sensitive issues and provide high level, authoritative advice.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in teams and manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills including excellent time management skills plus the ability to prioritise workload in response to time critical targets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to liaise, negotiate, consult, resolve conflict and manage change.
