Remote Sensing and GIS Officer
Overview
The Remote Sensing and GIS Officer works in a range of remote sensing and GIS works. The Remote Sensing and GIS Officer to conduct research related to landscape analysis, planning, monitoring, and evaluation using remote sensing and GIS tools, including land cover mapping in macro, medium, and micro scale, the field data collection including GPS, FGD, UAV/drone mapping, and other approaches. The Remote Sensing and GIS Officer is responsible for the specific key output of the project and research activities and develops a chapter of the research report. The Remote Sensing and GIS Officer works closely with a team of multidisciplinary scientists. The Remote Sensing and GIS Officer as a leader of maps producer and GIS analysis, but also has to contribute significantly to developing spatial database applications. As the output leader, the Remote Sensing and GIS Officer is responsible for remote sensing data and spatial analysis and advises and recommends to other researchers such as proposal development.
Duties and responsibilities
Research
- Develop a methodology for Remote Sensing and GIS/Spatial Analysis work
for a specific output of the research activities. - Provide analysis of remote sensing data through satellite image
interpretation pre-processing, classification, and post-classification analysis
for several areas in Indonesia and other countries using updated approach and
methodology. - Provide overall geospatial data processing (GIS processing) including
integration with non-spatial (tabular) data especially research conducted by
CIFOR-ICRAF Indonesia. - Lead the capacity strengthening process on relevant remote sensing/GIS
topics for partners, beneficiaries, and internal requests. - Develop methodology and procedure for primary geospatial data collection
e.g., ground checking, GPS data collection, drone utilization, and others. - Presenting data and research results in an informative and creative
manner, especially in cartographic works and many forums within and outside the
country. - Contribute to a geospatial database, metadata input and management and
organize storage for non-digital data (CD/DVD, etc.). - Lead of maintaining published and public domain relevant data,
developing network with government agencies and NGOs that produce remote
sensing and GIS data.
Administrative and Research Management
- Contribute to report production and other documentation or publication
forms. - Contribute to maintenance of mapping tools and equipment i.e.: GPS
handheld, Drone package, Camera, etc. - Performing other related activities that may arise from time to time in
support of ICRAF’s mandate including some administrative support.
Other Responsibilities
- Identify and mitigate
potential risks within your work area. - Take reasonable care of
own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by
CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with
CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and
safety provisions of relevant Country laws. - Participate in (insert
team as appropriate) projects as may be required.
Education, knowledge and experience
• Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications: BSc in Remote Sensing, Geography, Geodesy, Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Biology, Technics, and any related and similar discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in geospatial data acquisition/collection, analysis, and management for scientific work.
Terms and conditions
• This is a local position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
• The initial appointment will be for 1 (one) year, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
• The duty station will be in Bogor, Indonesia.
