This program provides Camp Coordination and Camp Management services to displacement camps in Northeast Syria. Funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, Blumont works to ensure equitable access to assistance, protection, and services to improve the quality of life and dignity for internally displaced people, refugees, and third-country nationals living in the camps.

 

ROLE SUMMARY:

Blumont is seeking a Reporting and Communications Officer to support a range of program deliverables and communications. Supervised by the Program Director, this position is an integral part of the team, working across areas of program implementation to coordinate, synthesize, and develop materials for the donor and partners. The Reporting and Communications Officer will also work closely with the Blumont Communications Team based in Arlington, VA to amplify program activities and ensure alignment with donor and Blumont communications policies and standards.

 

The Reporting and Communications Officer will collaborate with technical experts to create a range of tools and materials, including weekly and quarterly reports, success stories, and social media content. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, s/he may be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

This position requires a high degree of organization with the ability to engage with colleagues in Erbil, Syria, and the United States. A strong candidate for this position will prioritize and embody Blumont’s core values:

JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Working across program teams, including Monitoring & Evaluation, field implementation, supply chain management, and other functions to compile and synthesize information for regular reports, including weekly, quarterly, mid-year, PDMs and final reports to the donor.
  • Ensuring that data and technical information is clearly and accurately presented in all reports and materials.
  • Aggregating information from across teams and reporting cycles to ensure that information is fully contextualized, well-organized, and shows trends over time.
  • Working with program management and HQ teams to revise, refine, and finalize reports and materials for the donor.
  • Working to improve the accuracy and consistency of reports while improving the efficiency of the report development process.
  • Coordinating with the Program Directors, managers of program components, the monitoring and evaluation team, the Blumont Communications Team, and other colleagues to monitor progress and identify opportunities to capture, develop, and amplify information, including stories of success and progress.
  • Ensuring that all communications and materials are in line with donor branding and marking plan and Blumont policies.
  • Developing social media content for the Blumont Communications Team to amplify program progress via Blumont social media channels.
  • Coordinating with Blumont Communications Team to respond to or address any media inquiries, communications crises, or related needs.
  • Capturing and tracking visual assets, including photos and videos, in line with Blumont policies.
  • Regularly capture and share visual and story content with Blumont Communications Team.
  • Coordinating with Blumont Communications Team on outreach campaigns which may include international days (e.g., International Women’s Day, World Food Day).

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as communications, marketing, journalism, or international development with at least 5 years of directly relevant professional experience, preferably in international development
  • Prior experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably with USAID, PRM, GFFO, MIFA etc
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (mandatory) and Arabic (required)
  • Proven experience developing a range of written materials in English, including reports, success stories, presentations, fact sheets, and social media content (required to submit samples)
  • Proven experience editing technical reports, including data.
  • Strong analytical capacity, including the ability to synthesize complex/technical information for non-technical audiences
  • Ability to multitask without losing attention to detail
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and be accountable for results in a fast-paced, fluid, and challenging work environment
  • A proven self-motivated individual capable of working with diverse teams of both national and international staff as well as local government authorities, I/NGOs and other partners
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated ability to handle routine administrative tasks and operational issues

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, InDesign, or other design tools
  • Ability to travel to program sites in northeast Syria (30% of the time)
