Background

FHI 360 brings multi sectoral expertise to design, deliver, evaluate and scale solutions to environment and climate change (ECC) challenges. This integrated, 360-degree approach is needed to achieve sustainable, resilient, just and balanced outcomes for people and the planet.

Scope of Work (SOW)

FHI 360 seeks to hire a Consultant to support the Asia Pacific Environment and Climate Change (ECC) Initiative Team to prepare a landscape analysis to determine our niche within the Climate Change and Heat topic specifically its impact on health by conducting a comprehensive assessment of the market (donors, opportunities, potential funding) and competitors (their positioning, capabilities, and comparison with our organization). Based on market potential and our competitive advantages, this should result in the identification of recommended entry points for FHI 360 to pursue from among the various relevant Heat topics.

The analysis and recommendation must build from FHI 360’s capabilities and leverage our existing resources, experiences, and networks and final recommendation should also highlight engagement strategy with entities in each segment and preliminary assumption-based projections of potential success. Further details of the scope and expectations of deliverables will be provided by the ECC team prior to/during the interview process. The geographic scope of this analysis is Asia-Pacific with specific focus in South Asia, Southeast Asia and, Central Asia.

Below is an example of report framework:

  1. Market Assessment:
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the current Climate Change and Heat, specifically its impact on health focusing on potential donors, funding opportunities and research gaps.
  • Identify sub-segments within the intersection of Climate Change, Heat and Health topics and map with potential donors’ interest or funding opportunities and research gaps.
  1. Competitor Analysis:
  • Identify and profile key competitors within each area of interest.
  • Assess competitors’ positioning, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Analyze competitors’ market strategies, partnerships, and their effectiveness.
  • Provide a comprehensive comparison of our organization with identified competitors, highlighting areas of competitive advantage and gaps.
  1. Capability Assessment:
  • Conduct an internal assessment of our organization’s capabilities, resources, and expertise relevant to the selected topic(s).
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis) within our current operational framework and map with the identified topic(s).
  1. Strategic Recommendations:
  • Synthesize findings from the market, competitor, and capability assessments.
  • Identify the most strategic Climate Change and Heat topics for our organization to focus on, based on the assessment results.
  • Provide actionable recommendations on how to position our organization within the chosen topics.
  • Suggest potential partnerships, collaborations, and strategic initiatives and entry points to enhance our market entry and positioning.

  3. Draft assessment and strategic recommendation report inclusive of Market Assessment, Competitor Analysis, Capability Assessment and Strategic Recommendation with action plan (report template will be co-developed with FHI 360)
    • Due date: 9/15/2024
  4. Provide briefings to relevant FHI 360 staff on the results of the analyses and solicit their feedback, comments, recommendations and inputs
    • Due date: 9/21/2024
  5. Finalize the report taking into consideration the inputs received from FHI 360
    • Due date: 9/29/2024

Period of Performance and Level of Effort

Initial contract August 1 to September 30, 2024, up to 60 days, which can be extended upon mutual agreement and availability of funds.

Location of Work: Bangkok, Thailand or working remotely.

Travel: Not anticipated.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or its international equivalent in health, environment, development, business, social science or other relevant fields
  • Five to seven years of professional experience in strategic planning and partnerships, program management, political economy or market analysis, or business development.
  • Outstanding analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear and easily understandable language and structure, varying style to meet the needs of a given audience.
  • English fluency (reading and writing) required.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, capable of integrating content across multiple Office applications.
  • Ability to handle tight deadlines and conflicting schedules in a professional manner. Must be flexible and able to work on weekends to meet deliverable deadlines, as required.
  • Knowledge of the development sector, especially extreme heat, heat stress, environmental and climate change-related issues in Asia Pacific preferred.
