Job description
The Commission has a non-ongoing opportunity for 12 months (with possibility for extension) for an APS6 Research and Engagement Officer to work in the Sydney office (remote and flexible working arrangements are available). You will be part of a team to deliver the Historical Disclosures process with the Respect@Work Implementation Team and the Sex Discrimination Team.

BACKGROUND:
The position will support implementation of the Historical Disclosures of Workplace Sexual Harassment process (the Historical Disclosures Process). The Historical Disclosures process was a key recommendation from the National Inquiry into Workplace Sexual Harassment and the Respect@Work Report.
The Historical Disclosures Process is a 2 year process to enable victim-survivors of historical workplace sexual harassment to tell their stories to help recovery, and to centre victim-survivor voices to change systems.
The National Inquiry into Workplace Sexual Harassment and the National Survey into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces have highlighted that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience workplace sexual harassment at high rates, and that often their experiences intersect with other forms of discrimination. It is integral that the Historical Disclosures Process meets the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to be part of a team to deliver the Historical Disclosures Process. The successful applicant will work with the Respect@Work Implementation Team and the Sex Discrimination Team.
They will use their community engagement, research, and/or social work/mental health (or similar) expertise to ensure the Historical Disclosures process is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, culturally safe, and considers the lived experience of victim-survivors of workplace sexual harassment. They and the team will have a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake research duties relating to workplace sexual harassment and the intersection of other forms of discrimination, such as gender, race, disability, age etc.
- Undertake field research including by leading focus groups, consultations, and interviews (some domestic travel will be required).
- Provide support and referrals to victim-survivors who are participating in the Historical Disclosures Process, such as conducting debriefs, checking in with participants, following up with referral agencies.
- Provide advice and support to design a process which is trauma-informed, culturally safe and considers the lived experience of victim-survivors of workplace sexual harassment, with a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers.
- Contribute to projects in line with decided goals, timelines, and budget, as directed.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including relevant community organisations, consultants and commission colleagues.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the Commission in the planning, administration and conduct of the team’s work and in the development and delivery of the Commission’s identified goals and priorities.
- Provide organisational and logistical support for activities conducted by the Historical Disclosures Team.
- Other duties consistent with the above as directed.
