About the Role

This Research and Lab Assistant is a full-time, fixed-term post available immediately and funded till 31st Aug 2024.

The Dr Michael Jie’s Group in Department of Chemistry is seeking a Research and Lab Assistant to work in the area of dry methane reforming using microwave catalysis. The group’s area of research centres on the investigation of the complex interaction between a heterogeneous metal catalyst system and a microwave-induced electric field and the development of efficient catalyst systems for broad applications including CO2 capture and utilisation, clean hydrogen production, and plastic waste upcycling. The position will provide the successful candidate with an exceptional opportunity to link with the industry partner/ sponsor and gain expertise in the fields of catalysis, inorganic chemistry and materials, microwave sciences and engineering.

The successful candidate, who will be supervised by Dr Michael Jie, is expected to work with project funder and academics, postdocs and PhD students in the School, and to bring research experience in some of the key areas mentioned above.

About You

You must have relevant knowledge and experience in catalyst preparation, characterisation and evaluation and be educated to degree level in a relevant field. You must have an understanding of the research process and knowledge of appropriate research protocols and experience of the research and lab environment.

This post is based within the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences which has over 150 staff. The School forms one of five within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and consists of two distinct research departments: Chemistry and Physics & Astronomy, both delivering world-leading research and high-class teaching. The School is located on the Mile End Campus in the purpose-built Joseph Priestley and G.O. Jones Buildings. The School’s state of the art teaching and research laboratories and mechanical workshop facilities support a range of educational and research activities including those for external industrial partners.
