The program of Enteric Infections and Vaccines under the Infectious Diseases Division conducts research with the Mucosal Immunology and Vaccinology Unit (MIVU) for immunological and molecular genomic analyses for different enteric organisms. To achieve this goal icddr,b is working for controlling enteric infections, detecting and controlling emerging and re-emerging infections with the collaboration of the relevant government and non-government stakeholders.

Position Description:

The Research Assistant will report to the Senior Scientist and will be responsible for performing laboratory tests; managing data; implementing project activities and quality assurance with the objective of supporting the research studies within the guidelines of project-specific research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in–

• Maintaining laboratory equipment for optimum operation and performing minor troubleshooting;
• Storing and preserving samples in appropriate conditions;
• Ensuring adherence to quality assurance processes throughout the laboratory testing process, from sample collection to final results;
• Processing, labeling, and storing samples according to study requirements before analysis;
• Monitoring inventory regularly with the assistance of support staff to ensure sample integrity; 
• Conducting microbiological analyses of samples to isolate and identify enteric pathogens using rapid diagnostic tests, culturing techniques, biochemical, serological, and molecular methods;
• Isolating and identifying bacteriophages by phenotypic and molecular tests; 
• Extracting nucleic acid from study specimens; 
• Carrying out PCR for the detection of enteric infections; 
• Working together with senior laboratory colleagues and assisting in conducting various laboratory tests on study samples according to established guidelines.

Required qualifications and experience:

• Masters in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry with good academic records.
• At least 4 years of laboratory experience in microbiology, immunology, or molecular biology at a reputable organization.
