Job Title: Research Assistant, British Raptor Programme (Part time, 0.6 FTE)
The Research Assistant will contribute to the overall objectives of the Trust’s Conservation
& Research (C & R) department. The core function of the role is to provide practical,
technical, logistical and administrative support to the Trust’s British Raptor Programme.
We seek a competent field biologist/ornithologist with high physical capabilities, resilience
to challenging field conditions and an array of well-developed practical skills. We value
flexibility, adaptability and initiative within a teamwork environment. Reliability, integrity
and trustworthiness are essential.
You will be expected to:
- Help monitor, survey and provide nest sites for target species in the British Raptor
Programme - Conduct fieldwork and provide technical support to other research projects
- Assist with administrative functions and supporter liaison, including information/open days
- Contribute to the preparation of presentations, scientific publications, internal reports,
briefs, annual reports, educational and promotional material, etc. - Contribute to communications between the C & R department, other Trust staff, visitors
and supporters
Essential
- Degree in a biological science and/or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
- Well-developed practical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrable fieldwork experience (i.e. collecting and recording data)
- Demonstrable field ID skills of British birds and mammals (invertebrate ID desirable)
- Competency in working at heights (tree climbing skills desirable)
- Full UK driving licence (hitching, towing and manoeuvring vehicle trailers desirable)
- Good communication and inter-personal skills
- Computer literacy, especially all MS Office applications and good data management skills
This is a part-time role (0.6 FTE), £21,700-£24,000 pro rata. Apply with letter of application
