Summary:

If you have experience as a Research Assistant, we want you to consider joining our research lab in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. We are seeking a passionate, detail-oriented Research Assistant to aid in the research processes of our lab by conducting research, collecting data, and maintaining equipment and software. This role is designed for individuals who are highly self-motivated and exhibit excellent time management and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have developed clinical research skills, the ability to handle confidential and sensitive data with integrity, the ability to learn new software and research techniques as needed and will have the flexibility to adjust to work-related requirements as they arise. They will also be responsible for scheduling and communicating with both potential research participants in the Greater Philadelphia area and within various departments of the university. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the project coordinator with research protocols; helping to recruit research participants; administering and scoring select assessment instruments; conducting structured clinical and life event interviews; conducting phlebotomy; conducting MRI scans; organizing the data collected in a spreadsheet or online formats; checking for quality and entering data collected during the course of the study; assisting in the preparation of scientific lab reports; and general academic research efforts as appropriate.

The research assistant will also have opportunities for authorship on conference presentations and research publications. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field by the time of position start date, and six months of experience with human participants in a research setting.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.

Willingness to be trained and certified as a phlebotomist.

Willingness to be trained and certified to assist with or conduct MRI scans.

Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.

Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse constituent population, as well as adolescents.

Demonstrated professional demeanor and sensitivity towards research participants.

Ability to work evenings or many weekends, as required.

Ability to work on these projects for at least two years.

Must successfully demonstrate receipt of Bachelor’s degree prior to commencement of the position.

Preferred:

Experience in a research setting.

Experience conducting psychiatric diagnostic interviews.

Experience with depression/bipolar research.

Experience working with adolescents and/or clinical populations.

Phlebotomy experience and/or certification.

Experience conducting or assisting with MRI scans

Experience preprocessing MRI data

Demonstrated ability to work with data programs (e.g., RedCap; SPSS; R; MATLAB; SPM, EPrime).

At least one year of experience with human participants in a clinical setting

 

This position requires a background check.

This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.

This is a grant funded position.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the department.
