Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Public Sector Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation Unit in the Corporate Services Division requires support to compliment the resource mobilization efforts towards member states by providing accurate and timely data, analysis, reports and advice on the organization’s income relating to the Environment Fund. The objective is to clear the unapplied and unidentified deposits as well as carry out income and data management duties, reconciliations of receipts to ensure 100% capture of all UNEP income in both Umoja, and Power Business Intelligence, which is the database for donor agreements and funds. Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Senior Finance and Budget Assistant and overall leadership of the Programme Management Officer in the Public Sector Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, the Individual Contractor will carry out the following duties as required: • Support the review of all corporate funding agreements to determine the reporting criteria and update calendar of reporting timelines. • Support the conduct of research on specific funding partners, their funding priorities and contribution history to UNEP and to the multi-lateral system. • Support the preparation of funding profiles before bilateral meetings. • Support the development of financial and narrative reports sent to funding partners (e.g. United Nations Development Account – UNDA). • Support the preparation of PSP&RM events, such as bilateral consultations and other meetings with Member States. • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: Completion of High School education is required. Completion of University is an asset. Supplementary course and training in accounting, finance, budget or directly related fields highly desirable. Work Experience: Three years’ experience in finance, accounting, research or data analysis is required. Working experience with UNEP and knowledge of the financial procedures and processes will be an asset. Fair knowledge of Financial Management and accounting is required. Analytical thinking and clear and concise drafting skills are required.
Languages
Language: Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of any other UN language is an asset;
