Research Assistant Children and Young People

Applications are invited for a research assistant to work with Dr Jiedi Lei on the project ‘Adopting a Strengths-Based Approach to Improve Quality of Life for Autistic Children and Young People (CYP) through a Neurodiversity Lens’.

The post is funded by the Paul Foundation and is based in the Department of Experimental Psychology in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter in Oxford.  The post is full-time.

The post is for a fixed term (funded until 5th November 2026).

You will contribute to the development of interview topic guides for running individual interviews and focus groups that assess autistic CYP, parent/carers, teachers and clinicians’ perspectives on strengths.  You will help with development of experimental materials and ethics approval (including participant information sheets, consent forms, and research proposal) as well as the development and refinement of a new tool (based on questionnaire assessment) to evaluate strengths profiles in autistic children.

You will have a degree (2:1 or above) in psychology together with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.   You will have experience of working and conducting clinical interviews with neurodivergent individuals, including autistic children and young people as well as working in a clinical (ideally NHS) setting.  Experience of using task programming software such as Gorilla and editing websites and videos would be desirable.
