We are a non-advocacy, tax exempt, environmental research and education organization committed to the study and preservation of natural ecosystems, with a particular focus on those within the Hudson Valley region of New York State and nearby areas. Our work encompasses a diverse array of research projects centered on biodiversity, ecology, and conservation science.
We collaborate closely with government agencies, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and private landowners to collect scientific data, conduct field surveys, and evaluate habitat capacity to support biodiversity. Our research endeavors include the study of native plant and animal species, the identification of rare and endangered species habitats, natural history of invasive plants, and long-term monitoring efforts of various taxa.
In addition to our research initiatives, we provide technical assistance and training for land use planning, conservation, and environmental management efforts. Our team of experts provides technical proficiency and scientific guidance to inform land management decisions and safeguard vulnerable habitats and species of conservation concern.
Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Research Assistant in Ecology with a focus on field botany to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in biological surveys, preparing reports for land use decision-makers, and contributing to the design of environmental management and conservation projects. This position offers opportunities to contribute to applied conservation practices in the Hudson valley, conduct fieldwork studying a variety of taxa (e.g. herpetofauna, birds, bats, butterflies, rare and/or invasive plants), and prepare technical reports and scientific papers.

● This position involves year-round fieldwork, including outdoor activities in various weather conditions. Applicants must be physically capable of performing field work tasks, including walking on uneven terrain and carrying equipment
Compensation:
Compensation is $38,000 – $44,000 based upon experience. Benefits include fully paid health insurance and SIMPLE IRA. After three months of satisfactory experience, eligible for up to two days of remote work per week.
