Pay Range Information Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary The rapidly growing Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University invites applications for a Research Assistant position.

Position Description
Manage an academic research lab, facilitate and conduct independent research. Research areas Human-Computer Interaction, Ubiquitous and Assistive technology. Conducting research will be an integral part of the position. The position will assist and supervise undergraduate students with their projects and will pursue their own research project. The research will involve methods such as literature review, design thinking, user studies, development of mobile, wearables and emerging technology applications. There will be significant interaction with undergraduate students and with other faculty and staff.
Responsibilities Conduct independent research related to supervisor’s principal research. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Development of mobile, wearables and emerging technology application
  • Carry out experiments related to the research.
  • Work with and oversee undergraduate students and assist in delegating tasks.
  • Train and advise undergraduate research students.
  • User studies, experimental design, collecting and analyzing data.

Manage general lab operations. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Order, receive and track materials and inventory.
  • Other administrative tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree and previous experience in an appropriate field with preference given to candidates with a degree or equivalent coursework in Human-Computer Interaction, and app development or related field.
  • Previous experience in coding skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Willingness to acquire new skills
