Job Description
The main responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitating access to and understanding of the Library’s Collections.
- Conduct research and contribute to scholarship on Singapore and Southeast Asia.
- Develop areas of research specialisation to support institutional policies on collection development, publications, and exhibition programming.
- Conceptualising and mounting exhibitions in connection to the various curatorial projects of Library across collections and departments
- Developing research and archival materials pertinent to the collection.
- Writing, editing, and publishing exhibition catalogues and other publications including websites and publicity materials.
- Developing public programs such as public talks, workshops and events in in collaboration with the outreach team.
- Participating in acquisition processes as curator in-charge of Singapore related materials.
- To assist in making the Department’s collections available for research to internal and external audiences.
- Ensure the work of the Archive & Library department is communicated effectively to all stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Any other administrative duties, such as committee and secretarial functions, as assigned by Collections Lead and the University Librarian.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Art History, History, Cultural Studies, Global Studies, Arts Management or equivalent
- While not always mandatory, a master’s degree in a related field can be advantageous and is often preferred
- About 2 years’ relevant research/archiver experience, preferably within the libraries/museum field. Fresh graduates may be considered
- Keen interest in and knowledge of Singapore and/or SEA art history
- Excellent research, writing, and communication with an ability to be a team player
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with skills in research and writing
- Good project management, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Interest and ability to contribute to NUS Libraries overall strategy and management
- Meticulous with an eye for detail and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
