The incumbent of this role will be tasked with the enhancement of trade capacities among member states (MSs) through the development and dissemination of technical materials and capacity-building activities. Specifically, the contractor will contribute to preparing training materials and user guides for a global economy-wide trade simulator tailored to the needs of the UAE, Morocco, Oman, and Egypt. Additionally, by assisting in testing and improving user interfaces and conducting analyses on trade integration, the contractor will play a crucial role in facilitating the adoption of trade tools developed by ESCWA, ultimately supporting the project coordinator in broadening trade understanding and capabilities within these member states.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: This assignment for Individual contractors/ researcher is part of technical cooperation to MSs and to carry out research and analyses on Trade and assist in the development of technical materials and capacity building activities. The services of an individual contractor are needed to assist the project coordinator in preparing technical materials and capacity building activities to member states. More particularly, the research assistant will be involved in the delivery of technical assistance to MSs on using Trade tools that ESCWA is developing for a panel of its MSs. The IC will also support the project coordinator in the delivery of additional technical assistance activities on trade issues. Duties and Responsibilities: In particular, the IC will be tasked to do the following: • Assist in preparing training materials on national versions of global economywide trade simulator for UAE, Morocco, Oman and Egypt and in the delivery of national and regional training workshops. • Assist in preparing user guides for the GETSI national versions to facilitate their uses by national teams. • Assist in testing the user friendly interfaces and undertake the required changes in collaboration with the IT’s team. • Undertake specific analyses on selected subjects related to trade integration. • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in applied economics or in a related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of one year of professional work experience in the field of research and analysis of Trade policies is required. Experience and knowledge of statistics and other sustainable development issues is required. Proficiency in Microsoft office application is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required. Fluency in French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
