Research Assistant – Parkinson’s Disease

• Full time, fixed term until December 2024
• Exciting opportunity to be a research assistant in a neuropathology lab exploring the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease
• Base Salary from $83,384 + 17% superannuation

As a Research assistant, you will be working at the Brain and Mind Centre for the School of Medical Sciences with senior Academic staff who work on disclosing PD pathogenesis and novel candidate targets. You will be involved in the day-to-day histology and microscopy experiments with advanced tool kits established in our laboratory that specialize in exploring the neuropathological features responsible for neurodegenerative disorders.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• supporting research, tissue, and reagent record keeping, general communications, scheduling and minuting research/laboratory meetings
• conduct data analysis, prepare reporting and presentations and carry out literature searches
• conduct tissue staining as required; for example, chemical, immunohistochemistry, and multiplex staining etc.
• microscopy-specific research activity including, using various microscopes, including for bright field and confocal
• oversee daily operations of the research laboratory, providing technical support for affiliated researchers and postgraduate research students
• coordinate the development and submission of research publications for the work area
• undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities.

About you

• experience in a research-intensive environment
• experience in carrying out literacy searches and preparing literary reviews for further analysis
• extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, statistical analysis, and digital image analysis.
• you will be an excellent communicator both oral and written
• tertiary qualifications (e.g., honours or Masters) in a relevant field (i.e., neuroscience, neuroanatomy, histology, microscopy, and neuropathology)
• ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
