Why this role matters:

The Research Assistant will be an integral part of the Population Child Health (PCH) group within the School of Clinical Medicine. This role involves contributing to various research projects focused on three key themes: Integrating Care, Priority Populations, and the First 2000 Days.

Reporting to the Professor , the Research Assistant will engage in quantitative data cleaning and analysis, recruitment for trials, literature searches, manuscript preparation, and administrative tasks within the PCH group. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively within a research team.

Key Accountabilities (but not limited to):

  • Perform research literature searches for relevant articles and assist with the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Assist with the preparation of ethics applications, amendments, and annual reports, as well as assist in the preparation of grant applications and annual reports, and other progress reports.
  • Prepare and coordinate the content, formatting, printing, uploading or distribution of research study materials and resources.
  • Assist with research study recruitment activities, including sending study invitation packs, surveys, and comprehensive respondent follow-up using a range of approved methodologies.
  • Perform data collection, including the collection of data from participants and medical records, as well as data entry, curation, coding, and analyses of quantitative data.
  • Maintain research databases and systems to the highest scientific and ethical standards.

Skills Required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience. A postgraduate or undergraduate qualification in epidemiology, statistics or public health will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in research administration, statistical or biostatistical analysis and adequate skills in using statistical software such as R, Python, stata or SAS.
  • Proven high level organisational skills, ability to establish priorities, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and levels of seniority as well as children, young people, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse and solve problems to provide accurate and appropriate outcomes.
  • Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and contributing to projects and initiatives.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
