Research Assistant Professor faculty member in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; writes, secures, and implements grant funded research projects; disseminate findings; mentor postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students; participate in school service activities. participate in curriculum development, program initiatives, student selection and advising, division, school, and university service, professional and/or community service activities. Candidate will maintain a research program; write and/or serve as principal investigator on grants; publish scholarly works in books and peer-reviewed journals and present work at local, regional, national and international meetings.

Experience, Training and other Qualifications Required or Desired:

Required Focused area of inquiry; history of successful award of extramural grant submission and/or funding. Individuals who have recently completed PhD and/or post-doctoral fellowships will be considered.

Recommended:  The position includes high expectations of scholarship, and the successful candidate will provide evidence of scholarly activity and potential for success as a research assistant professor.

Position Overview

The research program for this position should focus on injury biomechanics research, which is intended to understand human injury thresholds and injury prevention.  This research program should also have a specific focus on reducing injuries to children in car crashes.

Required : PhD in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field

Department Information

The Injury Biomechanics Research Center (IBRC) at The Ohio State University is a multi-disciplinary research center dedicated to investigating the relationships between human injury and physical mechanical properties. The IBRC has completed research in the field of automobile safety since 2004. The IBRC brings together an interdisciplinary team of engineers, anatomists, anthropologists, physicians, computer modelers and technicians who focus on both mechanisms of injury and injury thresholds of the human body. The IBRC has the capabilities to test biomechanical loading and impact scenarios with anthropomorphic test devices (crash test dummies), post-mortem human subjects, and non-injurious scenarios with research volunteers. The IBRC works closely with several Ohio State departments and many government and industry partners to offer one of the most diverse testing facilities in the country.
