Job Description
The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is an autonomous research centre focused on Singapore public policy, under the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
IPS is looking to hire a Research Assistant (Special Projects) with international relations or social science background to support the S R Nathan Fellowship. Main tasks include providing research and administrative support to the S R Nathan Fellow and the IPS Public Affairs team.
The Research Assistant will also have the opportunity to work on the editing of commentaries for mainstream media and IPS Commons, planning of podcasts, newsletters well as be closely involved in supporting the Institute’s public communications work, via traditional and new media.
He or she should be intellectually and socially curious, media-savvy, meticulous about accuracy and able to write concise and compelling copy on deadline.
He or she should be resourceful and street-smart in getting things done, and have an interest in Singapore public policy issues and politics.
The Research Assistant will benefit from opportunities to participate in IPS research projects where time permits, and exposure to policy discussions at events organised by IPS and the institutions and departments under the National University of Singapore,
The job scope includes:
- Researching developments in a range of public policy areas;
- Generating ideas for podcasts, and editing commentaries on various public policy topic for IPS Commons;
- Attending IPS events and writing reports for the e-newsletter;
- Managing the IPS e-newsletter and publications (administrative, writing and editing duties); and
- Monitoring and reporting on relevant media reports.
Qualifications
The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree, ideally in international affairs or social science to support the new S R Nathan Fellow. Journalistic experience and proficiency in digital media will be an advantage.

- Able to manage his/her time well and meet tight deadlines;
- Have an interest in Singapore public policy issues and politics; and
- Ideally, have some experience in journalism and/or digital media (a plus, not a requirement)
