This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.

The expected salary range for this position is $66,924 to $72,000 per annum.

The School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) term position at the rank of a Research Associate. The initial appointment is for one year with a possibility of extension subject to work performance and funding availability. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The expected start date for this position is April 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will serve as a Research Associate working as part of a team with the Stigma and Resilience Among Vulnerable Youth Centre (SARAVYC). SARAVYC is a team of researchers, collaborators, trainees, and community partners brought together to advance an interdisciplinary research program that aims to understand the influences of stigma, violence and trauma on the health of vulnerable populations of youth, and how resilience factors in their relationships and environments can help prevent or reduce trauma responses and health inequities. Vulnerable populations that are the focus of our youth-engaged research include 2SLGBTQ+ youth; runaway, homeless or street-involved young people; sexually abused and sexually exploited adolescents; immigrant and refugee youth; Indigenous adolescents; and others at risk of stigma and discrimination.

Our interdisciplinary, international research team integrates diverse perspectives into novel ways of asking research questions, rigorous and youth-engaged methods of knowledge creation, and innovative approaches to knowledge-to-action (KTA). Our research informs general societal attitudes, community programs and services, clinical interventions, government policies, and even laws.

Duties as a Research Associate include:

  • Conducting complex statistical analysis and interpretation of quantitative data, which includes techniques such as multilevel multigroup modelling, site-level longitudinal effects of population health interventions (SLEPHI), complex samples in SPSS, trend analysis, and psychometric validation of tools. The research associate may also be required to support the development of new analytical methods or statistical approaches.
  • Providing support for the training of research assistant trainees, research centre staff, and postdoctoral fellows in complex statistical analysis.
  • Contributing to manuscripts, which includes reviewing and checking quantitative results.
  • Contributing to scholarly work in one or more thematic research areas identified in the SARAVYC research unit and its research partners.
  • Assisting with knowledge transfer activities such as conference presentations, community-friendly reports, manuscripts for publication, and website content.

The Research Associate will be located at the School of Nursing SARAVYC research office at Koerner Pavilion, University Hospital, UBC-Vancouver campus so that they can work closely with the Centre’s team. The workspace includes an office, a computer, and other office equipment for accomplishing specific research tasks.

The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g. public health, statistics, sociology, nursing, psychology, sociology, anthropology, education); Graduate Degree in Measurement, Evaluation and Research Methodology (MERM) or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred; experience working in a research environment using advanced statistical analysis; skills with M plus, and SPPS required; significant exposure to 2SLGBTQ+ health research methodologies
