Position Overview
The Department of Community of Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
Research Associate will be working in the areas of social and nutritional epidemiology.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Independently conceive of, design, plan and execute quantitative research studies to examine how socioeconomic position shapes health and diet quality
- Critically evaluate the literature and apply advanced public health theories and concepts
- Work with large data sets linked to administrative health data in Statistics Canada Research Data Centres
- Analyze data from randomized controlled trials
- Critically select and apply statistical and/or machine learning techniques to analyze quantitative data
- Recommend statistical analyses procedures to other staff and trainees and assist them to implement them
- Design and implement agent-based models
- Write theoretically rich manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Independently resolve complex research challenges
- Apply to local, provincial and national funding competitions
Qualifications / Requirements:
- PhD with a specialization in areas related to public health, nutrition, biostatistics, data science and/or epidemiology
- Minimum 4 – 5 years of post-doctoral experience in a relevant research area
- Thorough knowledge of the literature and theory related to socioeconomic inequities in diet quality and health
- Experience working in Statistics Canada Research Data Centres
- Expertise in agent-based modelling
- Excellent time management skills
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner within an interdisciplinary environment
- Advanced ability to use Stata and other statistical packages (e.g., R, SAS)
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to independently write peer-reviewed articles for publication
- Strong track record of scholarly activities including publication of research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations
