Research Associate (EU strategy, policy and circular economy)

About the role:

We are looking to appoint a talented, enthusiastic and dedicated research associate to join the circular economy group based within the Department of Natural Sciences for 48 months helping to deliver upon Manchester Metropolitan’s contribution to an EU funded grant. Your role is to undertake research in the field of implementing innovative methods for safety and sustainability assessment of chemical and materials at the nano level. You will be providing validation of approaches in light of EU strategy, policy and circular economy. Also, you will consider and comment on current EU policies, strategies and regulations related to the testing and assessment of chemicals, materials and/or substances. Furthermore, an initial standardisation or validation dossier will need to be completed and also you will provide recommendations for the future development of EU policy, strategy, and regulation.

About you:

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a doctoral level degree in circular economy and/or EU policy, strategy and regulation with experience of delivering research projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of EU policies, strategies and regulations relating to testing and assessment of chemicals, materials and/or substances.
  • Be able to develop and create a transparent and accessible database that will be shared on open platforms.
  • Be able to comment on current EU policies, strategies and regulations related to the testing and assessment of chemicals, materials and/or substances and prepare an initial standardisation or validation dossier.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation, the EU Ecolabel, REACH and CLP.

Our courses range across Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Geography with MSc courses in Advanced Materials, Animal Behaviour, Conservation Biology, Zoo Conservation Biology and Environmental Sustainability.
