Position Summary

Project PEACES – Postsecondary Education: Autistic Collegians’ Experiences of Success – is the largest-ever national study of autistic undergraduate college students. The longitudinal, mixed-method study examines how students define college success and what factors contribute to achieving that success. We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar who will, under the supervision of the PI/Co-PI and with the support of a diverse project team: 1) coordinate the day-to-day operations of the project, 2) participate in data collection and analyses, with an emphasis on qualitative work, and 3) contribute to dissemination activities including presentations and publications.

Responsibilities:

    • Project Management and Development
      • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional team of scholars, practitioners, graduate students, and self-advocates
      • Identify and contribute to future grant applications
      • Coordinate research team meetings and task management system
      • Help mentor graduate students and/or other emerging scholars working with project data
      • Lead development of process to make project data publicly accessible for other researchers
    • Data Collection and Analyses
      • Contribute to survey instrument development, interview protocols, and other data collection tools
      • Recruit participants across a variety of platforms (college support programs, social media, autism-related organizations)
      • Coordinate qualitative data collection for interviews and photo-elicitation activity (e.g. participant identification, communication, scheduling)
      • Conduct one-on-one Zoom interviews with autistic college students
      • Clean, organize, and manage confidential datasets
      • Qualitative Analyses (primarily): coding and interpreting interview transcripts, photo-elicitation responses, and open-ended responses to survey questions
      • Quantitative and Mixed/Integrated Analyses (secondarily, as needed): summarize survey responses, assess overarching project conclusions
    • Dissemination
      • Author manuscripts for publication at top-tier journals
      • Write short briefs and reports to share findings with various stakeholder groups
      • Develop and deliver academic conference presentations (position includes an annual travel allowance)

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in field relevant to project’s topical foci (preferably completed by end of Spring, 2024 semester; no later than summer of 2024)
  • Evidence of successful collaboration as part of a research team
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Self-motivated and driven
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in higher education, educational leadership, educational psychology, disability studies, or related fields
  • Formal coursework and/or research experience related to disability/autism and higher education
  • Technological competence with tools used for data collection (e.g., Qualtrics), analyses (e.g., Dedoose), and project management (e.g., Asana)
  • A record of scholarly publications
  • Experience mentoring junior scholars
  • Engagement with mixed-methods research
