The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.

The laboratory of Dr. Yongxin Zhao (https://labs.bio.cmu.edu/zhao/ ), in the department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, is seeking a part-time Research Associate I. This position is specifically crafted to support imaging tasks and lab operations over the weekend (15 hours per week/12 hours Saturday and Sunday).

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting sample preparation for Expansion microscopy.
  • Performing fluorescence microscopy.
  • Oversee and perform general laboratory maintenance.
  • Summarize statistical information for analysis and presentation.

You should demonstrate:

  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence
  • Computer programming skills (Matlaband Pythonpreferred)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the STEM fields.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in a biology/chemistry research laboratory.
  • Proficiency in fluorescence microscopy and wet lab techniques.
  • Excellent multitasking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High initiative and ability to work independently.
