Working for ECHO

Located within the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta, the ECHO (translating Evidence in Child Health to enhance Outcomes) research program conducts research focused on knowledge translation in pediatric health settings to improve outcomes for children, their families, and the health care system. 

Position 

The Research Project Coordinator is responsible for contributing to research activities overall. The Research Project Coordinator will work closely with the PI and the Research Manager to coordinate funded research projects and be responsible for all facets of data management, data collection, data analysis, and contributing to research dissemination (e.g., publications, technical reports, presentations, webinars, infographics, etc.). The Research Project Coordinator will facilitate communication between team members, coordinate the day-to-day operations of projects, and manage the overall milestones and study targets to ensure project completion. 

Duties 

  • Conduct and coordinate research projects as outlined by the PI (e.g., article screening, data extraction, methodological assessment, knowledge syntheses, quantitative and qualitative data collection and data analyses, data management and data cleaning, etc.).
  • Work with ECHO staff to design and develop project materials including consent form templates, questionnaires, data collection forms, findings tables, etc.
  • Develop and write standard operating procedures relating to the conduct of the program (e.g., study operations/procedures, recruitment procedures), quality assurance procedures, data quality assurance procedures (e.g., entry, verification, validation), data collection form, completion guidelines, reporting procedures, document management, tracking forms to tabulate and prepare reports and regular program communication.
  • Submit ethics applications and receive operational approval.
  • Coordinate with contractors to develop certain knowledge translation products for wide dissemination.
  • Develop presentations, reports, research papers and publications based on research results.
  • Carry out data analyses (knowledge synthesis, qualitative and quantitative).
  • Write, and edit research progress reports and research final reports from the research funding agencies.
  • Coordinates research and administrative program meetings and fosters communications with the research team.
  • Work with IT and the Research Office to ensure ECHO technology and data management is meeting industry standards and facilitating research progress.
  • Responsible for the purchase of office equipment, supplies and furnishing, dealing with suppliers, University Purchasing, and office requirements.
  • Other related duties may be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of related project coordination or management experience.
  • Experience in a research program environment, preferably health-related.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent skills in written and verbal communication, project planning, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis expertise.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in a health or related discipline with strong analytic skills (e.g. public health, nursing, psychology, knowledge translation, anthropology, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience in a health research program environment is preferred.
