Position Summary

The College of Nursing, Center for Nursing Research, Scholarship, and Innovation (CNRSI) is looking to hire an individual that together with the Associate Dean for Research and Research Administrator, will expand the nursing research program over the next three to five years.

The Research Core Lead (RCL) oversees all aspects of the team’s day-to-day operations and provides supervision and support to fulfill the roles within the research team. Importantly, the Lead must keep abreast of advances in technology, together with the Center for Nursing, Research, Scholarship, and Innovation comprised of the Associate Dean for Research, Research Administrator, and Executive Secretary, as well as state, and national research entities. The RCL makes recommendations regarding proposals, data collection, data analysis, finances, subject recruitment, grant management, and reporting. The RCL also consults and collaborates with researchers to determine the appropriate systems, tools, resources, policies, and procedures to address specific research questions and assists researchers in developing and implementing their research methodology/designs/interventions. Once data is available, the RCL may assist researchers in analyzing and interpreting the data, preparing information for presentations and publications, and presenting preliminary data for grant application development and submission.

Essential Duties include but not limited to:

C ontribute to developing a strategic plan, policies, and procedures to support current and future nursing research activity, keeping diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind. 

Establish and maintain a resource repository to assist research faculty in writing grant applications and guide faculty in developing budgets, IRB and Compliance requirements/approvals, and Intellectual Property.

Develop and update boilerplate position descriptions, ensure posting procedures are followed, and guide the PI in hiring.

In coordination with the PI, develop and provide basic training for each role on a grant team. Support grant implementation activities as requested by the PI to ensure the success of the grant.

Provide temporary coverage and oversee training for various grant roles due to forecasted or unexpected occurrences.

Works with research teams to resolve problems concerning proposals, contracts, financial reports, and accounts, as needed.

Serves as liaison with IRB and University Compliance, research sites, CON business office, and others to ensure policies and procedures are followed.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business administration, Finance, or a research-related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration including the area of pre or post award processes, or related field such as regulatory administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This job requires Essentials of Research Administration at MSU Certificate series or equivalent.
