About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a data specialist to classify and report on the research undertaken by world-class academics at the University of Melbourne. As a Research Data Officer, your main responsibility will be managing the APEX system that supports the University’s HERDC (Higher Education Research Data Collection) submission to the Department of Education. You’ll also assist the Senior Reporting Analyst in preparing data for the annual external HERDC audit, which occurs at the end of June.

Your day-to-day tasks will focus on the APEX system: troubleshooting issues, providing user access and training and processing any necessary adjustments to HERDC coding. You will also be monitoring usage and triaging tickets in Service Now and general enquiries received in the Research Team inbox.

Moreover, you’ll have the chance to familiarise yourself with a variety of technologies in this role. Currently, the university is in the process of implementing two new enterprise source systems: Workday and Cayuse. Additionally, the existing data warehouse is undergoing migration to the cloud (Snowflake). You’ll have a strong voice in system design discussions and play a important role in implementing these new systems and associated business processes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshoot issues related to APEX access and validation steps
  • Assist in training APEX users and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Highlight HERDC coding inconsistencies for further investigation
  • Redesign and reengineer the HERDC reporting process and using new data sources

Who we are looking for

  • Experience in the use of data and business intelligence tools, including data querying languages
  • Working knowledge of Oracle language
  • Ability to prioritise tasks to meet strict deadlines
  • Good communication skills
