Position Responsibilities
Position Summary | This is a 12-month tenure track Assistant professor – Extension Specialist position located at the University of Idaho Kimberly Research and Extension Center. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct an innovative and comprehensive Extension (60%) and research (40%) program focused on enhancing forage production and management to fit the needs of the forage and livestock industry by increasing yield, quality, nutritional value, and utilization. The successful candidate will develop and implement a nationally recognized educational program in forage crop production and utilization in annual and perennial forage systems. The program should also integrate environmentally sustainable practices, such as water quality protection, climate resilience, and soil health enhancement. Research and Extension activities should emphasize forage crops and their utilization as hay, haylage, and silage, and provide oversight of the forage variety evaluation program at the University of Idaho. The successful candidate will develop a comprehensive Extension education program and develop a forage production education program accessible to students, county extension educators, and stakeholders. Program outputs should be evaluated yearly to demonstrate impact on the forage and livestock industry. The successful candidate is expected to procure external funding to support the research and Extension program on forage crop systems for livestock. Additionally, the successful candidate will actively participate in recruitment, advising, and mentoring of graduate students. |
