Applications are invited from highly motivated researchers to work as part of a research team, working on the project ‘ Advanced MUltiscale stochastic Simulations of phase transition-AMUSe’.

This project is supported by the prestigious Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grant scheme and includes theoretical, numerical and experimental studies on boiling heat transfer. This post will see you developing, planning and managing of research tasks related to spatiotemporally resolved diagnostics for the conduction of laboratory measurements in Pool Boiling that will be used to inform and validate numerical modelling frameworks that are developed in the project.   In consultation with a Principal Investigator, a Co-Investigator as well as a team of international external experts in the field, you will be developing a publication record and you will be learning to generate funding and supervise less experienced researchers.

Research Fellows may also be expected to contribute to the teaching and/or consultancy activities in order to ensure continuous development of knowledge in the subject area and join external networks to share information and identify potential sources of funds.

In order to be successful in this post it is essential that you have:

  •  A relevant degree in Engineering, Physics, or in any other relevant discipline.
  • Sufficient, up to date breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes and evidence of commitment to engage in continuous professional development.
  • Understanding of equality of opportunity, academic content and issues relating to student need.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Competent in the use of image/video processing, ideally using MATLAB or python.

It will be desirable if you also have:

  • A PhD in Engineering, Physics, or in any other relevant discipline or an equivalent level of professional experience.
  • Experience in the set-up, validation, and conduction of spatiotemporally resolved experimental measurement diagnostics for multiphase flows with phase-change heat transfer (i.e. boiling, condensation).
  • Experience in experimental physicochemical characterisation of metallic surfaces.
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate students’ supervision.

For an informal discussion please contact Dr Anastasios Georgoulas by email [email protected] .

This post is full-time (1.0 FTE) until 12/09/2025, due to the funding restrictions we anticipate the successful candidate being able to start in the role by end of April 2024.

Job sharers are welcome.
