  • Terms: Full-time, Continuing (Contingent Funded), funded until 31 December 2025

about the role

The Centre for Indigenous Policy Research (CIPR) in POLIS: the Centre for Social Policy Research invites applications for a Research Fellow with proven qualitative research skills and a demonstrated capacity to build strong relationships with First Nations communities and organisations. 

This position will make a crucial contribution to the project ‘Improving On-Country Education for First Nations Students’. The Research Fellow will be part of a research team producing empirical and qualitative evidence to build understanding of how various schooling models, education policy settings and funding allocations in the states, territories and at the Federal level, work to shape the lives of individuals and communities.

This position will involve fieldwork to 4 remote communities in the Northern Territory and South Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.

about the Centre for Indigenous Policy Research

CIPR is Australia’s pre-eminent social science research body focusing on First Nations social and economic policy. CIPR is part of POLIS, the ANU Centre for Social Policy Research in the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS). POLIS is home to six other research centres, enabling CIPR to work across disciplines and sectors, including government, community, business and education. This interdisciplinary and collaborative space enables CIPR to address and make a difference in the challenges of today’s society.

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice.

Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates.
